Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Craig Nutts! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Coleman! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Coleman misses with a series of wild punches.
Coleman darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Nutts is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Coleman trying to control from half guard but Nutts is working away. Coleman prevents Nutts from improving his position. Nutts has hold of Coleman's hands but Coleman slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's one minute gone in the round. Coleman looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Nutts with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Coleman with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Nutts actively working from the bottom here. Coleman prevents Nutts from improving his position. Coleman is looking to take a break and control but Nutts is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Nutts is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Coleman is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Nutts has hold of Coleman's hands but Coleman slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Coleman drops an elbow to the side of Nutts's head. Nutts is looking to improve his position.
Coleman controlling the action here. Coleman trying to control the action but Nutts is working from the bottom. Nutts wants to control but Coleman is keeping busy.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nutts gets back to full guard.
Nutts wants to sweep here but Coleman controlling him for the moment. Nutts working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Coleman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Coleman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Coleman wants to control from the top but Nutts keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Coleman tries to free his leg and advance position but Nutts is retaining full guard. Nutts looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Coleman wants to pass the guard but Nutts is keeping the position. Nutts tries to land a sweep but no joy. Nutts is working hard here to advance position. Coleman looking to sit in guard and control but Nutts gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nutts trying to control but Coleman is working from the bottom. Nutts prevents Coleman from getting back to his feet. Coleman looking for a sweep. Not yet Coleman, not yet. Nutts slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Nutts is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Coleman is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. You can see the frustration on Coleman's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jake Coleman will probably get the nod. That's time! Nutts's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Coleman looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Nutts! Coleman working away. Coleman is trying to get an arm triangle but Nutts is defending well. Nutts is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Coleman's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Coleman is nestled in close to Nutts, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Nutts gets back to full guard.
Nutts lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Coleman!
That's one minute gone in the round. Nutts looking to control but Coleman is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Coleman prevents Nutts from taking his back. Nutts working for a submission but Coleman is keeping him at bay. Nutts trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nutts sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Coleman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nutts. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Coleman prevents Nutts from taking his back. Nutts wants to finish this one by submission but Coleman is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Nutts. Nutts trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Coleman tries to hold on but Nutts postures up. Coleman is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Coleman wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Nutts.
Nutts looking to control and managing it successfully. Nutts wants to finish this one by submission but Coleman is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Nutts.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Coleman is desperately trying to improve his position but Nutts has a good base and remains in mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Coleman in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Nutts wants to control the pace but Coleman is squirming around nicely. Coleman wants to control but Nutts is having none of it. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nutts swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Coleman is now in Nutts's guard. A big mistake from Nutts there, giving up the dominant position! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Coleman avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Nutts looking for a sweep. Not yet Nutts, not yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Craig Nutts dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Nice takedown defense from Nutts. No joy for Coleman on that attempt. Nutts uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Coleman. Coleman is looking to score with low kicks. Coleman misses the jab. Coleman throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Nutts was covering up waiting for the punch and Coleman finishes the takedown easily into guard. Nutts tries to land a sweep but no joy. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nutts is on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nutts works a leg free and moves into half guard. Nutts is trying to control the action in half guard but Coleman is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Nutts has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Coleman defend it? Nutts steps over the head and cranks it - Coleman is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Nutts!
