Poon has chosen Jerk It Out-Caesars as his entrance music. Lonnie Poon told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! Poon lands a two punch combo.
Cassio moves in looking to clinch but Poon pushes him off.
Cassio closes the distance looking to clinch
and Poon counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
No luck for Cassio with that takedown attempt.
Poon jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

and Poon counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Cassio thinking.
Oh Cassio is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Poon fakes the body blow, causing Cassio to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Cassio goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!

McGill wants the takedown. Bowlsby is fighting it off but McGill persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Bowlsby's guard against the cage.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Leroy cracks Santiago with a hook to the temple - Santiago is on wobbly legs here! Leroy swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Santiago falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Leroy wins by TKO!

I think Al Thor might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Hail the Dragon. Ange Fili has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Rand Al Thor's chin.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ange Fili!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fili throws a series of punches but Al Thor moves out of range.
Fili throws a head kick that misses.
Fili takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Fili misses with a straight left.
Al Thor moves out of range of the body kick from Fili.
Fili throws the left hand but Al Thor avoids the punch easily.
Al Thor buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Fili tries to land a front kick but Al Thor steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Fili works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Fili takes a kick to the side of the head.
Fili throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Fili will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Fili tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Fili slips a jab and a cross from Al Thor.
Fili throws a head kick that misses.
Fili throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Fili.
Al Thor fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Fili has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Ange Fili seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Al Thor checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Fili moves in looking to clinch but Al Thor pushes him off.
Al Thor avoids the head kick by Fili.
Al Thor fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Al Thor tries to land a front kick but Fili steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Al Thor steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Fili.
Fili is looking to clinch but Al Thor is avoiding it.

A looping hook to the body misses from Al Thor. Fili does a little dance to reset his feet.
Al Thor fakes the leg kick and cracks Fili in the body.

A head kick misses from Fili.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Al Thor throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Al Thor makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Fili really felt that one!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fili misses with a head kick.
Sloppy strikes from Fili. Those never looked like landing.
Al Thor misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Fili goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Al Thor ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fili moves away.
Al Thor lands a jab to the nose.
Fili takes one to the side of the head.
Fili misses with a low kick as Al Thor jumps back.
Fili throws a leg kick that is checked
and Al Thor counters with a two punch combo.
Al Thor bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Al Thor moves out of range of the body kick from Fili.
Fili tries to close the distance and clinch but Al Thor swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ohhhhh! A huge head kick from Al Thor! Fili is out on his feet! Al Thor rushes in and throws more strikes. The ref is looking closely - Fili is covering up but the punishment is just too much and the ref steps in to stop the fight! Fili is staring into space, just thankful that the beatdown has ended. Brutal finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rand Al Thor!
Rand Al Thor is the new welterweight champion!
A less than humble Rand Al Thor misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
