Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rocky Joaquin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddy Gordo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rocky Joaquin had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 171.1lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Eddy Gordo! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Edson Gomes and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Joaquin missing with a left hand there. Gordo was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Gordo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Joaquin avoids it really well and circles away. Gordo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Joaquin as he avoids it easily. Joaquin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Rocky Joaquin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eddy Gordo. Joaquin tries to clinch up but Gordo circles away and keeps his distance. Gordo gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Gordo keeping moving, preventing Joaquin from controlling successfully. Joaquin controls from within his opponent's guard. Joaquin trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Joaquin drops back, looking for a kneebar! Gordo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Gordo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Gordo! Joaquin wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Gordo wants to control but Joaquin is keeping him busy. Gordo looking to control but instead Joaquin has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Gordo throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Joaquin to regain full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Joaquin keeping moving, preventing Gordo from controlling successfully. Joaquin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gordo controls the pace. Gordo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Joaquin trying to keep a closed guard but Gordo is proving a slippery customer.
Joaquin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Joaquin is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Gordo is looking for a takedown. A frustrated look appears on Joaquin's face as he tries to break the clinch. Gordo keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Joaquin's efforts to push away. Joaquin can't get the takedown.

Gordo has Joaquin pressed against the cage, preventing Joaquin from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Joaquin prevents the takedown attempt.
Joaquin is defending well against a takedown attempt. Gordo looks winded! Gordo is working for takedown but Joaquin is calmly controlling the position for now. Gordo is trying to drag Joaquin to the mat but Joaquin just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Joaquin throws a punch but it's blocked by Gordo. Joaquin wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gordo has him pressed against the cage. Joaquin wants to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Joaquin tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Joaquin gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Joaquin throwing shots but Gordo is blocking nicely. Joaquin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Gordo! Joaquin avoids the attempt from Gordo to control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Joaquin unloads with some shots from mount but Gordo bucks and avoids them well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Joaquin is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gordo to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gordo shrugs it off. Gordo is bucking up trying to escape but Joaquin cracks him with another couple of good strikes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rocky Joaquin dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Joaquin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gordo. Joaquin tries to clinch up but Gordo circles away and keeps his distance. Gordo fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Joaquin. Joaquin scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Joaquin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gordo has escaped the position, nice work there. Joaquin in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Gordo is rocked! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Joaquin working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Gordo is still in real trouble! Can Joaquin finish him? Joaquin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Joaquin looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Gordo seems to have recovered his senses. Joaquin has an Americana. Gordo didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Joaquin is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Joaquin hooks up with any of them at the after show party.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Storm forces Villiers back against the cage and clinches. Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Storm obliges. Villiers scores with a shoulder strike. Storm manages to break the clinch.
Villiers really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Villiers fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Villiers tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Storm paws at him with a jab and circles away. Villiers shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Storm is trying to defend but Villiers finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Villiers trying to pass the guard but Storm defending well. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Storm preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Storm can do anything to dispel that myth. Storm is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Villiers's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Villiers's back!

You can see the frustration on Villiers's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Del Rio instigates a clinch. Bzdunek is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Del Rio is defending well. Del Rio manages to pull guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Del Rio throws his legs up looking for a submission but Bzdunek uses it to pass to side control.
Del Rio looking for a sweep but Bzdunek has passed into full mount! Oh no! Bzdunek working for a submission but Del Rio is keeping him at bay. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Del Rio has left one of his arms exposed and Bzdunek doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Del Rio screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). John Bzdunek! John Bzdunek was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
