Matt Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Al Nasser avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gracie. Al Nasser is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Gracie not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Al Nasser taking some punishment here, with Gracie in his half guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Gracie seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Gracie wants to stand up but Al Nasser is controlling the position.

Gracie takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Malapitan connects with a jab. Donk. Malapitan catches McClane right on the button with a cross. McClane staying out of range there. McClane gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Malapitan. McClane works Malapitan's body with a nice hook. Malapitan avoids a punch combination nicely.
Malapitan bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of McClane's head. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Malapitan works McClane's body with a nice hook. McClane staying out of range there. McClane ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Malapitan moves away. Malapitan throws a right and a left that McClane avoids nicely. Malapitan throws a hook but McClane blocks it. McClane buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

McClane misses with a double jab.
McClane lands a nice leg kick that just misses Malapitan's sensitive parts. Malapitan takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. McClane throws a front kick that sends Malapitan stumbling back into the ropes. Malapitan throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by McClane.

McClane missing with a left hand there. Malapitan was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Malapitan takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. McClane tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Malapitan was well out of range. Poor timing from McClane. Sloppy strikes from Malapitan. Those never looked like landing. McClane ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Malapitan looks to land a left hand but McClane moved out of range nicely. Malapitan misses with a wild combination.
Malapitan dips down and scores with a jab to the body. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Malapitan misses with a looping right. McClane scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Malapitan misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from McClane.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John McClane dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Malapitan defending well as McClane loads up on a big left hand. Malapitan slips a straight right by McClane. Malapitan stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from McClane. Malapitan lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as McClane backs up against the ropes.
McClane moves away from the strike by Malapitan. Malapitan loads up on a big right hand but McClane slips the punch. McClane uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Malapitan. Malapitan looks to land a combination but McClane avoids it well. McClane moves into range and connects with a jab. McClane lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
McClane jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
This has been an exciting period of action! McClane lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Malapitan scores with a nice right hand.
McClane will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Malapitan takes a swing at McClane's ribcage but misses. John McClane is winning the standup battle so far. McClane catches Malapitan with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cesar James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cesar James had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 186.0lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Danga de danga de dang - James scores with a four punch combination! A left lands for Miller. Miller misses with a few strikes there.

Miller steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with James's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. James just didn't come prepared.

Sobral is trying to break the clinch but Frazier has him pressed against the ropes. Sobral wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Frazier has him pressed against the ropes.

Sobral looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Frazier fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Sobral on the side of the head. Frazier scores with a decent looking hook.

Fonseca closes this distance looking for a takedown but Nsumba circles away. Guilherme Fonseca seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nsumba darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Fonseca tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Nsumba swivels and escapes. Fonseca fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Nsumba avoids it really well and circles away. Wandwasi Nsumba has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Guilherme Fonseca. Fonseca dives in and grabs Nsumba's left leg, looking for a takedown. Nsumba pushes down on Fonseca's head and hops out. Fonseca shoots and misses and Nsumba counters with a straight punch to the midsection. Fonseca shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Fonseca feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Fonseca passes into half guard. Fonseca misses with a head shot. Nsumba uses the momentum to regain guard. Nsumba seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Nsumba wants to stand up but Fonseca is controlling the position.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Fonseca is defended easily by Nsumba. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fonseca bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Fonseca in side control, throwing shots but Nsumba defends. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Nsumba is trying to get back to half guard. Nsumba is not content to let Fonseca control the position. Fonseca cracks Nsumba with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Patrushev gets caught flat footed, as McKenzie shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McKenzie accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. McKenzie is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. McKenzie must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Patrushev is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and McKenzie defends well. This has been an exciting period of action! McKenzie throwing strikes but missing.
