We've been hearing good reports from Wu's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Anderson throws an elbow that misses. Wu uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Anderson's guard. Nice move by Wu!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Kuai Wu.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Watanabe misses.
No joy there for Watanabe, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gate is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Watanabe.

It looks like William Gate has been cut.

Watanabe gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gate to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Watanabe wants to get back to his feet but Gate is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Gate drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Gate seems to have locked his on tight now - Watanabe screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Gate, as he picks up the win!

William Gate was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Byob Kingpin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julian Eduardo Demaestri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kingpin comes to the cage accompanied by Face the Pain (UFC Theme Song) by Stemn. Julian Eduardo Demaestri told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Demaestri gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Kingpin counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Demaestri's guard now.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kingpin wants to pass the guard but Demaestri is keeping the position.

Demaestri tries to roll over but Kingpin keeps him under control.

Kingpin is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Demaestri to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Demaestri shrugs it off.

Kingpin has control of Demaestri's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Demaestri regains control of the situation pretty easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kingpin has the hooks in. Demaestri is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Lesnoe throws a hook but Segura blocks it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Segura. Lesnoe does a little dance to reset his feet.
Segura wants to land a leg kick but Lesnoe is out of range.
Lesnoe tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

We've been hearing good reports from Lesnoe's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Lesnoe dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Segura. That did some damage!

Segura feints and as Lesnoe raises his hands in defense, Segura changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Lesnoe is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Segura looking to sit in guard and control but Lesnoe gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
