 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Excellent takedown into side control there by Leepen. Leepen landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Blue pushes Leepen away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Leepen gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Leepen scoring with punches from side control. Leepen definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The strikes coming from Leepen are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Leepen landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Leepen is looking to take a break and control but Blue is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Leepen throwing shots but missing, from side control. Leepen misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Blue really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Leepen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Leepen misses with the ground and pound.

The ground and pound from Leepen seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Blue seems to have recovered his senses. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Blue is working to avoid the ground and pound but Leepen connects with a decent elbow.

 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dank tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Plimpton was well out of range. Poor timing from Dank.
Plimpton clinches up with Dank and pushes him back against the cage. Plimpton comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
 It looks like John Dank has been cut. Plimpton scores with a shot to the side of Dank's head. Dank tries to score a body lock takedown but Plimpton shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Plimpton misses with a knee strike.

Dank throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Plimpton's waist but Plimpton gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dank off to one side. Plimpton checks a leg kick. Dank looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Dank is breathing heavily. Dank fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Dank. That's going to take a lot out of him. Plimpton is looking to clinch. Plimpton has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Dank is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Dank has been working on his balance at Facebreaker Academy : Striking, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Plimpton. Plimpton connects with a nasty looking knee right to Dank's face.
Nice elbow from Plimpton. Plimpton lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

 It looks like Randal Plimpton has been cut. Dank tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Plimpton defends well and Dank ends up having to push Plimpton into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.  The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith throws a nice looking combination but Queensberry bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Queensberry throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Smith on the side of the head. Smith steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Queensberry. Smith throws a series of punches but Queensberry avoids them all with ease. That kick from Queensberry tenderised Smith's leg. Smith is trying to keep his angry face on. Smith drops his hands momentarily and Queensberry takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Queensberry connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Smith stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Queensberry. Queensberry misses with an uppercut. Smith saw that one coming. Queensberry throws a front kick aimed at Smith's knee but Smith avoids it well. Queensberry tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Valesquez has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
