The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Udra throws a lazy uppercut
and Gillman cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Gillman takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

It looks like Guss Gillman has been cut.
A big right from Gillman misses.
Gillman connects with a nice looking jab.
Udra throws a left and a right that both miss
and Gillman cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Udra throws a lazy right hand but Gillman sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Daunotas Udra seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Udra throws a right hand that Gillman ducks under and follows up with a left that Gillman also avoids with ease.

Thomas changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Saar looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Thomas cracks Saar with a big elbow.

Thomas is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Saar is trying to escape and Thomas transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Saar is forced to tap! Nice work there by Thomas! Very nice indeed!

Lavaux misses with a wild body shot.
Vargas shoots in and drives through. Lavaux sprawls well.

Lavaux rushes Vargas and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Vargas has Lavaux pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lavaux manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Vargas has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Lavaux after a bit of a struggle.
Julien Lavaux has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Vargas.

Vargas shoots in for a takedown but Lavaux shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Meyner .

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Odd Man!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Man stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Man wants it to stay on the feet.
Odd Man seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kuusela avoids the body shot from Man.
Man looks to land a left hand but Kuusela moved out of range nicely.
A looping hook to the body misses from Man. Kuusela does a little dance to reset his feet.
Horrible takedown by Kuusela or perhaps it was just good defense by Man which made him look bad.

Man feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Man is looking to work some ground and pound but Kuusela has wrist control.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Man accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Man is working Kuusela over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Man in particular looking to stall.

Man looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kuusela with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Man thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kuusela's head.
Man is controlling the pace.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Kuusela tries to get to full guard but Man has control of the leg.

Man is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kuusela is just riding it out for now. Man eventually gives up the hold.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Man wants to take a breather but Kuusela is having none of it.

Man wants to work for an arm triangle but Kuusela is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kuusela tries to roll over but Man keeps him under control.
Man not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Man really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kuusela. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Man is looking to advance position but Kuusela won't allow it.
Kuusela is looking for a sweep. Man is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kuusela tries to sprawl but Man drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Man wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kuusela keeps working.
Well, if Man is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Man is working for a submission of some sort.

Man trying to work for an americana but Kuusela has managed to regain full guard.

Kuusela keeping moving, preventing Man from controlling successfully.
Kuusela is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Man must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kuusela has his foot on Man's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Man works his way back into a safe position though.

Kuusela is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Man is surviving well by controlling Kuusela's body position as best he can.
Kuusela can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Man is looking to escape.
Man is desperately trying to improve his position but Kuusela has a good base and remains in mount.

Odd Man has got the better of the ground game so far.
Man is squirming around, avoiding Kuusela's attempts to control the action.
Man is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Man sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Man can do anything to dispel that myth.

Kuusela prevents Man from improving his position.
Man wants to control but Kuusela is keeping busy.
Man is looking to improve his position.

Kuusela in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Man tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Kuusela!
