The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mekk tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Barriage manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Barriage shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Barriage fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mekk, pushing him back against the cage.
Barriage tries to pull guard but Mekk forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Barriage wants a takedown but no success here.

Barriage got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mekk has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Barriage has managed to get both his arms back between Mekk's legs - danger averted.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mekk can do anything to dispel that myth.

That was a close round but I would say that David Barriage will probably get the nod.

Shymyr uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Simans.
