The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Evans throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Oliveira. Evans scores with a punch to the head. Evans misses the body punch and Oliveira counters with a nice double leg into side control. Evans won't be happy with that. Evans is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Oliveira tries to move to mount but Evans blocks the move with his legs. Evans controls the position for a moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Oliveira wants to control but Evans is keeping him busy.

Nice body punch from Ghanizadeh. Ghanizadeh definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Ghanizadeh lands a shoulder strike. We've been hearing good reports from Makaaja's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Makaaja has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kermode is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Makaaja.
