16 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dennis Oppelaar! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Speed fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Oppelaar manages to avoid it. We've been hearing reports that Speed has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Speed lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Speed throws a series of punches but Oppelaar moves out of range. Dennis Oppelaar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Oppelaar swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Decent striking displayed by Speed there. Speed lands with a straight right. Oppelaar didn't see that one coming. Oppelaar throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Speed. Nice takedown defense from Speed. No joy for Oppelaar on that attempt. Oppelaar misses with a takedown and Speed counters with a straight right hand. Oppelaar keeps trying to improve his position. Speed thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Speed tries to pass to full mount but Oppelaar defends it. Speed stalling. Oppelaar is trying to control but can't.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Speed seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! The fighters are battling for position here. Oppelaar manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Speed wants to stand and escape but instead Oppelaar has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Oppelaar postures up.
Speed has his foot on Oppelaar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Oppelaar works his way back into a safe position though. Speed is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. This has been an exciting period of action! Oppelaar throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Speed works some decent striking defense from the bottom. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Speed holds on and takes a little breather. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Oppelaar's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Oppelaar content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oppelaar doesn't seem bothered though. Speed lands a nice shot that snaps Oppelaar's head back.
Speed lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Speed dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Oppelaar throws a nice looking combination but Speed bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Speed throws out a powerful jab. Oppelaar displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Speed throws out the jab. Oppelaar misses with an uppercut. Speed dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Oppelaar swinging wildly here.
Oppelaar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Speed lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maeda fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Ehrmantraut on the side of the head. Michael Ehrmantraut seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ehrmantraut motions for Maeda to come forward. Ehrmantraut throws a leg kick but it misses it's target. Ehrmantraut looks to land a right hand but Maeda moved out of range. Maeda lands a lovely overhand right. Maeda throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Maeda is looking to clinch. A good leg kick by Ehrmantraut. Maeda closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Maeda has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Ehrmantraut takes a head kick and keeps coming.
It looks like Michael Ehrmantraut has been cut. Ehrmantraut will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Ehrmantraut manages to break the clinch.
Maeda goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Ehrmantraut walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Maeda checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. We've been told by Ehrmantraut's head coaches at ~T~ Troid - Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Maeda slips a straight right by Ehrmantraut. Maeda is looking to score with low kicks. Ehrmantraut will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Maeda dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Ehrmantraut. That did some damage!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ehrmantraut throws a looping overhand right but Maeda ducks down to avoid it. Maeda is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ehrmantraut misses with a low kick as Maeda jumps back. Maeda throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Maeda connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Maeda slips a jab from Ehrmantraut. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Maeda, right into the meat.
Ehrmantraut closes the distance and clinches up with Maeda, looking for a takedown. Ehrmantraut pushes Maeda against the cage but Maeda circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. A nice leg kick lands there from Ehrmantraut. Maeda misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

That was a close round but I would say that Michael Ehrmantraut will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Michael Ehrmantraut's cut. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Padilla throws a wild body kick that Turk sees coming a mile off. Turk takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Padilla has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Padilla fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Padilla throws a predictable looking body shot
and Padilla takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Turk chopping away at his opponent's legs.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Love thows a body shot but no joy. Gillis has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. Love slips under a jab from Gillis. Love throws a hook but Gillis avoids it easily. Gillis avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gillis moves out of range of the strikes. Gillis with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Love to score with a decent uppercut. A momentary lapse in concentration from Love enables Gillis to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Love manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Love looking to sit in guard and control but Gillis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Love is trying to keep Gillis in close.

Puppy Love is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Love trying to control but Gillis is working from the bottom. Love slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
