The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Morgan cracks ONeil with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. A chopping leg kick lands by ONeil. Morgan looks to throw the jab but ONeil is out of range. Morgan moves out of range as ONeil strikes. Morgan slips a jab and a cross from ONeil.

Griffin has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. On Roids thows a body shot but no joy. On Roids drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Sloppy strikes there by On Roids. On Roids has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. On Roids working away diligently from side control. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hughes has a takedown stuffed. Mehtmeht walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Hughes checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Hughes has been working on his balance at Manu's Kiwi Beer Barn - PIT Inc., so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Mehtmeht. Mehtmeht moves forwards but Hughes connects with a nice, crisp jab. Mehtmeht leaves Hughes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Hughes connects with a solid leg kick. Mehtmeht dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Hughes on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Mehtmeht. Mehtmeht obviously looking to wear him down.
Hughes misses with a straight left. Hughes chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Mehtmeht can pounce on him.
Hughes uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mehtmeht. Mehtmeht lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Mehtmeht feints and then cracks Hughes's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hughes down.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mehtmeht connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Hughes momentarily.

and Hughes counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hughes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Hughes won't allow Mehtmeht to sweep him here. Hughes prevents Mehtmeht from getting back to his feet. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hughes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hughes with a flurry of punches that miss. Mehtmeht has momentary wrist control but Hughes slips an elbow through the middle. Hughes throws a big elbow that misses. Hughes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mehtmeht swivels though and keeps the full guard. Hughes will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Hughes is pushing down on Mehtmeht's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mehtmeht is fighting to maintain full guard but Hughes has managed to sneak the leg through.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hughes is looking to take a break and control but Mehtmeht is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Hughes scoring with strikes to the body and head. Mehtmeht is looking for a sweep. Hughes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Hughes is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Mehtmeht is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Damme connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Damme lands a nice leg kick that just misses State Jr.'s sensitive parts. State Jr. throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Damme stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Damme looks to land a left hand but State Jr. moved out of range nicely. A kick lands to the mid section there for State Jr.. Damme works over State Jr.'s head and body with a nice combination. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Damme wants to land a leg kick but State Jr. is out of range. Damme finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
State Jr. scores with a jab to the body. State Jr. checks a leg kick. State Jr. cracks a nice hook into Damme's ribs. Damme is breathing heavily. Damme looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. State Jr. is trying to control the position but Damme postures up.

No, Damme escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Damme! State Jr. is looking to reverse the position. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Damme decides to stand back up. Damme steps back and let's State Jr. get back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gunner State Jr. dominated that round. The cut man is working on Van Damme's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
State Jr. stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Damme. Damme throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by State Jr.. State Jr. checks a low kick from Damme. Van Damme seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. State Jr. throws a series of punches but Damme moves out of range. Ouch! a nice leg kick from Damme, right into the meat.
Damme loads up on a big right hand but State Jr. slips the punch. State Jr. will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Damme takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Damme throws a wild body kick that State Jr. sees coming a mile off. State Jr. dips to his left and cracks Damme with an uppercut! Damme throws a push kick but State Jr. slaps the foot to one side. Gunner State Jr. seems to be getting the better of the standup. Damme throws a body kick that misses. Damme misses with a low kick as State Jr. jumps back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Sloppy strikes from State Jr.. Those never looked like landing. Nice uppercut there from Damme. State Jr. lands with an uppercut that bounces Damme off the cage and back into range. Good standup being displayed there by State Jr. as he connects with a hook. State Jr. moves out of range of the body kick from Damme.
A combination from State Jr. does no damage. Damme throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Damme works over State Jr.'s head and body with a nice combination. State Jr. works Damme's body with a nice hook. Damme cracks State Jr. with an open hand slap. Damme wants to land a leg kick but State Jr. is out of range. Damme blocks a jab. Damme cracks State Jr. with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Damme shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. State Jr. takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Damme lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and State Jr. has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from State Jr. and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Good exchange - Damme coming out on top. Damme pivots, looking for a leg kick but State Jr. is out of range and Damme settles back down. Damme swings away with a leg kick that misses. Damme closes the distance but State Jr. moves to the side and State Jr. counters with a straight right hand. State Jr. takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Damme connects with a leg kick. State Jr. looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. State Jr. is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Damme flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Damme is out cold! State Jr. holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson throws a hook to the side of Mathers's head but Mathers sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. We've been told by Mathers's head coaches at Philly Dawgz MMA - PIT Inc that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Johnson drives through with a takedown into guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Mathers is pulling down on Johnson's head to control his posture. Mathers working a defensive guard but Johnson passes into half guard.
Johnson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. My spies in mugler.newyork inform me that Johnson has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Johnson's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Mathers connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Johnson scrambles back to his feet. Mathers avoids the body shot from Johnson.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Mathers checks a leg kick. Johnson catches Mathers with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Johnson throws a body kick that digs right into the meat. Johnson goes for a double leg but Mathers avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mathers continues to drive forward. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mathers doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Johnson lands a shoulder strike. A head punch on the inside from Johnson fails to land. Mathers scores with a shot to the side of Johnson's head. Mathers is looking to break free of the clinch but Johnson has double underhooks. A nice right hand lands inside from Mathers. Johnson manages to break the clinch.

Mathers is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight. Johnson throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Johnson throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Mathers stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Mathers shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Johnson will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Johnson connects with a nice short shot to Mathers's temple. Johnson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mathers flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Mathers has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Johnson is on him like a limpet, forcing Mathers back against the cage. Mathers blocking some punches.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marshall Mathers. I think Johnson has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
