And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelianenko tries to clinch there but Virtus circles away.
Emelianenko looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Virtus will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Emelianenko has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Virtus avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Virtus goes for a takedown attempt but Emelianenko pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Virtus shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Emelianenko pinned against the cage. Emelianenko gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Virtus throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Emelianenko fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Virtus, pushing him back against the cage.
Virtus jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Emelianenko walks away with a smile on his face. Virtus gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Virtus is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Virtus is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Virtus is desperately trying to improve his position but Emelianenko has a good base and remains in mount.
Emelianenko wants to control but Virtus has made it back to half guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Emelianenko throws a head kick but Virtus moves out of range.
Virtus swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Emelianenko dodges the punch combination from Virtus.
Virtus dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Virtus shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Emelianenko counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Emelianenko.
Emelianenko drops down looking for an ankle pick but Virtus pulls his leg out and moves away.

Virtus feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Emelianenko not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Virtus drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Emelianenko manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Virtus has Emelianenko in his guard.
Virtus keeping moving, preventing Emelianenko from controlling successfully.
Emelianenko seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Emelianenko would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Virtus keeping moving, preventing Emelianenko from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Emelianenko wants to get up but he can't break Virtus's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Virtus manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Virtus with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Virtus throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Virtus wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Emelianenko is squirming around, avoiding Virtus's attempts to control the action.

Virtus seems to be looking for submissions.
Emelianenko keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Virtus looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Emelianenko is holding on to half guard well.
Virtus is pressing down on Emelianenko's thigh, looking to free his foot. Emelianenko is holding on for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Virtus seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Emelianenko is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
