The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maia changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Young looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Maia tries to move to full mount but Young actually manages to regain half guard. Maia seems to be working for a kimura but Young defends the submission attempt. Young trying to control from the bottom.
Maia tries to pass to full mount but Young defends it. Maia looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Maia wants to pass the guard but Young is defending well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Maia shoots in for a takedown but Young shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Young tries to bum rush Maia with a series of wild strikes but Maia uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Maia fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Young really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maia. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Young wants to control but Maia is keeping busy.

Young is staying active underneath Maia, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Young is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Maia's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Maia's back! Young struggling to keep hold of the position.
What can Maia do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Young slips out almost immediately though and dives into Maia's guard. Young not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Young is looking to stand up but Maia won't let him. Maia wants to sweep here but Young controlling him for the moment. Maia keeping full guard, as Young tries to pass. Young trying to control the position from guard on top but Maia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. That was a close round but I would say that John Maia will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Maia pushes Young against the cage but Young circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Young scores with a nice strike. Tucker connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Tucker tries to clinch up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Johnson lands with a slapping head kick. Tucker fails in his attempt to clinch. Johnson doesn't succeed with the takedown and Tucker decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Johnson's guard.

This has been an exciting period of action! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Johnson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tucker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tucker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Norris looks to score with a jab to the body but MANA is just out of range. MANA walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. MANA slips a straight right by Norris. MANA scores a takedown into full mount! Norris tries to get back to half guard but can't. Norris wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by MANA.
Norris wants to hold on but MANA pushes him away. Norris regains half guard. MANA is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's one minute gone in the round. MANA wants to lay and pray for a moment but Norris keeps working. MANA missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Norris moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. MANA would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Norris not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. MANA throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Norris works some decent striking defense from the bottom. MANA postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. A combination from Norris does no damage. MANA takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
MANA closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Norris did well to prevent MANA getting side control. Norris moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. MANA wants to pass the guard but Norris is keeping the position. Norris is looking to sinch up a triangle. MANA throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Norris's body to avoid the submission. Norris has instead reached around MANA's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Norris arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
