Shepherd is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Rockefellor regains full guard. Nicely done. Shepherd stops Rockefellor from standing up. Rockefellor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Shepherd drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shepherd jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Rockefellor wants to sweep but no luck.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. The fight stays on the outside here - Rockefellor looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Rockefellor leaves Shepherd with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to John Shepherd. I think Shepherd has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Roofer is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Stafjard is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Stafjard has escaped and now he's on top! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Qualls tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Staal punishes Qualls's body with a nice straight punch. Qualls pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Staal throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Qualls. Staal connects with a right hand. Qualls shakes it off. Qualls throws a leg kick but Staal sees it coming and checks it nicely. Qualls fails with an attempt to clinch.
Nice straight punches there by Staal. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Staal. Qualls wants to clinch up but Staal keeps it at a distance. Qualls had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Staal jabs Qualls right on the nose. Qualls blinks but takes it well. Staal throws a good cross that connects.

Qualls closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Staal connects with a single shot there. Qualls is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Qualls is rocked! Qualls pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Oh Qualls is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Qualls tries to clinch but Staal moves out of range. Staal lands a nice looking body shot.
Qualls seems to have got his legs back now. Qualls is breathing heavily. Staal digs a good body shot into Qualls's ribs. Staal fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Qualls takes a body punch but keeps moving. Staal changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Qualls takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Staal displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Staal Rushes Qualls and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Qualls is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Staal Piles on the pressure and Qualls crumples to the floor! This one is all over!

Submaster working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Williams doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Submaster is tightening it up a little... Williams has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Williams reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Williams taps out! nice BJJ there by Submaster!

MacGregor tries to clinch but Cozad moves away and Cozad counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. MacGregor wants to clinch and Cozad counters with a right hand to the body. MacGregor closes the distance but Cozad moves to the side and Cozad counters with a series of strikes. MacGregor will be more careful next time no doubt.

Oh MacGregor is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! MacGregor is breathing heavily. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cozad finds MacGregor's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! MacGregor flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Cozad lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure MacGregor will be OK.
