The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jose misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Vargas throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A leg kick checked by Jose. Vargas is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Vargas tries to clinch and Jose counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Jose slips a nice elbow through Vargas's hands, connecting with Vargas's forehead. Vargas wants to improve his position but Jose is controlling well.

Jose passes the guard and advances to mount! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jose controlling from mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jose unloading with bombs! Jose forces the positional change into back control. Jose is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jose wants to control but Vargas is keeping busy. Jose is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Vargas knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Vargas for a finish. Vargas covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Vargas just trying to survive but Jose is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Jose tries to keep control of the position but Vargas is staying busy. Vargas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jose on the ground. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vargas is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Jose is looking to control Vargas but Vargas is wriggling around and keeping busy. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Jose keeps control of the position as Vargas tries to break free.

Jonatan Jose dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Vargas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jose swats him away and circles back towards the center. Jose has managed to clinch.
Jose keeps control of Vargas as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Vargas wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jose manages to pull guard.

Jose is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Vargas wants to get up but he can't break Jose's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Vargas is bucking up trying to escape but Jose cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Jose working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Jose lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Jose unloading with bombs!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vargas is working to get back to half guard.
Jose looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Jose tries to control but Vargas wriggling away. Jose in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vargas is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Jose pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Jose is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Vargas is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Vargas flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Jose anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Vargas and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Jose slips an arm under Vargas chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Jose has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Jose is squeezing on Vargas like an anaconda would it's prey. Vargas fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!
