Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Vern Troyer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Joe Flacco! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Donald Grub and Colin Fotheringham.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Flacco throws a head kick that misses. Flacco leaves Troyer with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Troyer tries for a takedown but Flacco sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Troyer clinches up with Flacco and pushes him back against the cage. Flacco is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Troyer has Flacco pushed against the cage. Flacco manages to break the clinch.
Flacco closes the distance looking to clinch and Troyer counters by clinching up. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Troyer breaks the clinch.
Flacco fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Flacco tries for a takedown but Troyer circles away easily and Troyer counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Flacco thinking.
That's one minute gone in the round. Flacco wants to clinch but Troyer slips to the side and Troyer holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Flacco jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Troyer walks away with a smile on his face. Flacco gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Vern Troyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Flacco. Troyer rushes Flacco and presses him up against the cage. Troyer prevents Flacco from breaking the clinch. Troyer stalling.
Troyer tries for a takedown but Flacco manages to get underhooks.
Flacco has Troyer pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Troyer manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Troyer decides to pull guard. Troyer could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Flacco pushes down on Troyer's leg and manages to get into half guard. Troyer gets full guard. Troyer wriggles free and stands up. Flacco tries to score a power double leg takedown but Troyer sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Flacco somewhat. Flacco looks gassed!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Flacco blocks a head kick by Troyer.
Flacco tries to clinch so Troyer counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Flacco keeping moving, preventing Troyer from controlling successfully. Flacco wants to sweep but no luck. Troyer sitting in guard here, content to control. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Troyer wants to control from the top but Flacco keeps moving. Troyer not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Troyer trying to control the position from guard on top but Flacco is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Troyer gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Flacco tries a head kick but it misses.
Troyer shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Flacco sprawls well. Flacco wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Troyer gets slowly back to his feet. Troyer throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Flacco takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Flacco blocks a head kick by Troyer.
Flacco tries for a takedown but Troyer circles away easily and Troyer counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Troyer tries to score a power double leg takedown but Flacco sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Troyer somewhat. Flacco has his takedown stuffed and Flacco takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Flacco misses with a takedown attempt - Troyer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Troyer throws a series of punches but Flacco moves out of range. Troyer pushes Flacco away with a front kick. Flacco swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Troyer counters by clinching up. Troyer leaning against his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Vern Troyer dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Flacco fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Flacco with a poor takedown and Troyer counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Troyer pulls guard effortlessly. Troyer throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Troyer controls Flacco momentarily but Flacco frees himself. Troyer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Flacco gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Flacco trying to control but Troyer is working from the bottom. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Flacco got a little sloppy there for a moment and Troyer has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Flacco has managed to get both his arms back between Troyer's legs - danger averted.
That's one minute gone in the round. Troyer wants to sweep here but Flacco controlling him for the moment. Flacco postures up.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Flacco tries to clinch but fails miserably and Troyer counters with a low kick, right behind Flacco 's knee. Troyer throws a head kick that misses. Flacco clinches but Troyer breaks the clinch and Troyer makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Flacco tries a head kick but it misses.
Troyer tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Flacco swivels and escapes. Flacco misses with a low kick.
Troyer changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Flacco tries to avoid it but Troyer manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Flacco to the ground. Flacco escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Flacco closes this distance looking for a takedown but Troyer circles away. Vern Troyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Flacco. Horrible takedown by Flacco or perhaps it was just good defense by Troyer which made him look bad. Troyer tries to score a power double leg takedown but Flacco sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Troyer somewhat. Troyer shoots in and drives through. Flacco sprawls well. Troyer stuffs the takedown.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Troyer rushes Flacco and presses him up against the cage. Troyer gets control of Flacco's arms and successfully pulls guard. Troyer will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Troyer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Troyer scoring with strikes to the body and head. Flacco is looking to improve his position.

Troyer trying to control the pace. Troyer wants to pass to mount but Flacco is defending the position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Troyer rushes Flacco and presses him up against the cage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Flacco looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Troyer looking to sit in guard and control but Flacco gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Troyer wants to stand up but Flacco is controlling him. Troyer keeping moving, preventing Flacco from controlling successfully. Flacco wants to get up but he can't break Troyer's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Flacco wants to control from the top but Troyer keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Troyer looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Troyer displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Flacco. Troyer forces Flacco back against the cage and clinches. Troyer breaks from the clinch.

Troyer lands a front kick. Troyer decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Flacco actively working from the bottom here. Troyer is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Troyer trying to control the action but Flacco is working from the bottom. Flacco is trying to escape back to his feet but Troyer uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Troyer has knee on belly and moves into mount. Troyer lands with some strikes.

Holmes lands a nice shot to the body.
Cotto walks into a stiff left hand from Holmes. Holmes throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Holmes swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Cotto tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Cotto changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Holmes looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Holmes is not content to let Cotto control the position. Cotto swings around for an armbar but Holmes sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Cotto's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cotto looking to hit a scissor sweep but Holmes is one step ahead there. Holmes wants to stand but Cotto is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Cotto tries to strike from the bottom.
Cotto is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Holmes scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Cotto drops his hands momentarily and Holmes takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Santonio Holmes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Holmes moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Cotto fails with an attempt to clinch.

Holmes lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Holmes sizes up Cotto with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Holmes scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Holmes lands with a shot to the body. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Holmes throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Cotto tries to clinch but Holmes is having none of it. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Holmes, as that shot connected.
Holmes jabs at Cotto's body. Holmes getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Holmes moves out of range of the strikes. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Holmes looks to score with a jab to the body but Cotto is just out of range.

He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Holmes to score with a decent uppercut. Holmes stuns Cotto with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Holmes with a body punch. A glancing blow. Holmes lands a nice looking body shot.

Holmes connects with a good right hand that stumbles Cotto. Cotto circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Holmes lunges at Cotto with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Cotto's hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cotto on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Holmes looks to score with a jab to the body but Cotto is just out of range. Holmes jabs at Cotto's body. Holmes swings for the body but Cotto moves out of range.
Holmes punishes Cotto's body with a nice straight punch. Holmes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cotto was well out of range. Poor timing from Holmes. Holmes throws a hook to the side of Cotto's head but Cotto sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Cotto tries to clinch up. Holmes looks to land a right hand but Cotto moved out of range. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Santonio Holmes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cotto shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Holmes as he avoids it easily. The fighters circle momentarily. Holmes darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Holmes connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Holmes works Cotto's body with a nice hook. Cotto shoots for a double leg takedown but Holmes sprawls well. He's pushed Cotto's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Holmes lands a body shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Holmes. Cotto does a little dance to reset his feet. Holmes dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Holmes takes a swing at Cotto's ribcage but misses. Holmes keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Holmes misses with a wild body shot. Cotto throws a shot from downtown. Holmes moves away and avoids it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Holmes lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Holmes cracks Cotto with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Cotto fails with a takedown attempt. A looping hook to the body misses from Holmes. Cotto does a little dance to reset his feet. Cotto keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cotto looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Holmes lands with a nice body punch. Holmes avoids a punch combination nicely.
Holmes throws out a powerful jab. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Holmes fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Cotto looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Miguel Cotto has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Holmes lands a body shot.
And that's the end of the fight! Santonio Holmes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Holmes winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
