7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matt Barnett! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mercer stuffs the takedown attempt from Barnett. Barnett gets slowly back to his feet. Barnett tries for a takedown but Mercer circles away easily and Mercer cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Barnett has his takedown stuffed and Mercer counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Barnett! Stu Mercer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Barnett. Mercer advances to mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Barnett tries to lock up and control but Mercer gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Barnett is wriggling around trying to escape.
Barnett takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mercer raining down shots from the mount! A nice elbow there by Mercer. Barnett is trying to escape the mount.
Barnett is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Mercer trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mercer lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Mercer trying to control but Barnett is having none of it. Barnett tries to reverse the position but Mercer maintains control. Barnett regains half guard. Mercer is trying to control. Barnett wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Mercer wants to pass the guard but Barnett is defending well. Barnett trying to hold on to Mercer's head to control him but Mercer postures up.

Barnett lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Mercer!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mercer manages to regain half guard whilst avoiding the strikes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Barnett takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Mercer pushes Barnett off looking to stand but Barnett dives back in and keeps control.
Mercer is refusing to be controlled, as Barnett sits in half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Barnett shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Barnett throws a body punch but Mercer moves out of range. Barnett will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Barnett shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mercer defends it nicely. A cross from Mercer lands. Mercer bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Mercer throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Barnett tries to get back to half guard but can't. Mercer working the ground and pound from side control. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! You can see the frustration on Barnett's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Mercer misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
That's four minutes gone in the round. I wouldn't like to be where Barnett is right now. Barnett is trying to control Mercer's posture but Mercer avoids it. Mercer working the ground and pound but Barnett is defending the strikes. Mercer wants to stand but Barnett is controlling his arm. Mercer throws an elbow but Barnett slips to the side and avoids it well. Mercer stands up and beckons Barnett to his feet. Barnett fails with a takedown attempt from distance. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Barnett swinging wildly here.
Barnett swats away the attempt to clinch by Mercer. Mercer closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Stu Mercer dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Mercer uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Barnett.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Mercer. Barnett shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mercer but Mercer pushes him off and we're back to square one. Mercer connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Barnett tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Mercer defends well and Barnett ends up having to push Mercer into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Barnett has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mercer after a bit of a struggle. Stu Mercer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Barnett. Mercer is working for takedown but Barnett is calmly controlling the position for now. Mercer landing knees to the body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! With the fighters clinched against the cage, Mercer creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Mercer pressing his opponent against the cage. Mercer is trying to trip Barnett. He has hold of a leg but Barnett is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Mercer persists though and gets the takedown into guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mercer accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Mercer's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Mercer trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mercer wants to get up but he can't break Barnett's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mercer scoring with some ground and pound. Barnett is breathing heavily. Mercer works a leg free and moves into half guard. Mercer tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Barnett has his hands clasped together around Mercer's back. He's all about the action. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mercer misses with a head shot. Barnett uses the momentum to regain guard. Barnett is working an open guard so Mercer takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Mercer scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mercer swings around for an armbar but Barnett sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mercer's guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Barnett trying to control but Mercer is working from the bottom. Barnett pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Mercer is keeping the position for now. Mercer pulls Barnett in close to his closed guard and prevents Barnett from doing any damage or advancing position. Mercer definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Barnett stays in close to Mercer's body and controls the position.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gil takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Malapitan uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Gil has time to react. Malapitan lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Malapitan avoids a kick to the body.
Gil has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Gil there as he acknowledges the shot. Gil tries to clinch but Malapitan is having none of it. Malapitan misses with an uppercut. Malapitan misses with a straight right. Gil looks up at the clock. Bad move! Malapitan lands a right hand from hell, dropping Gil. Malapitan pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Cold's eyes follow the hand right onto his nose, taking in it's full glory... and then darkness. Cold crumples to the floor! He's out cold! Laoka punches the air and yells at the top of his lungs - yeeeeeeeeeeah!!!! This one is all over!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Chilax fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Chilax moves in looking to clinch but Machida pushes him off. Machida lands with a good body shot. Chilax connects with a good right hand that stumbles Machida. Machida circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Machida moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
