The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nomo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Schmierer.
Nomo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Nomo blocks a head kick by Schmierer.
Schmierer looks to land a body kick but Nomo moved away.
Schmierer throws a head kick but Nomo moves out of range.
Nomo stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Schmierer.

Nomo shoots in and bounces Schmierer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Schmierer has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Schmierer has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Nomo to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Schmierer is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Nomo pulls down on the head and he's put Schmierer to sleep! This one is all over!

We've been hearing good reports from Miyamoto's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Miyamoto is looking to take a break and control but Susanoo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

I was talking to Vengeance's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Kawamura's coach down at Lock and Roll Grappling Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Kawamura's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Paul Smith.
