Samuel shoots in looking for a takedown. Rua tries to sprawl out of it but Samuel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Rua manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Rua throws a right and a left that Samuel avoids nicely.
Samuel has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Rua swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rua tries to close the distance and clinch up but Samuel swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Samuel takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Rua felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Big Baby dives in looking to finish as Watson flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Big Baby's strikes! Big Baby is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Watson's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Watson was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
