The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith throws an overhand right that lands on Cross's shoulder, as Cross tries to avoid the shot.
We've been told by Cross's head coaches at HARRY'S that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Smith.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Smith misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cross is trying to maintain the position but Smith is very close to passing his half guard.
Smith prevents Cross from standing back up.
Cross is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Smith stops Cross from getting back to his feet.
Cross is breathing heavily.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Smith is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Smith wants to clinch up but Cross keeps it at a distance.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Cross lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Smith has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Smith and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Smith closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smith lands in his opponent's guard.

Smith lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cross circles away quickly and effectively.

Smith drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smith jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Cross fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Smith looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Cross throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cross scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Smith misses with a two punch combination.
Smith keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Cross throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Cross ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away.
Cross connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Smith's hands.
Cross lands with a nice body punch.
Smith doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Cross counters with a nice uppercut.

Cross shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Cross was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kendall Cross.

Smith throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Cross on the side of the head.

Cross fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Cross throws out a leg kick but Smith moves out of range and Cross only half commits.

Cross thows a body shot but no joy.
Smith has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Smith there as he acknowledges the shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cross. Smith does a little dance to reset his feet.
Cross is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
