Undercard bout

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Manuel Mendoza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Heandler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendoza's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Accept - Balls to the Wall. Heandler has chosen Theme as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Mendoza breaks the clinch.
Mendoza really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mendoza throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Heandler was covering up waiting for the punch and Mendoza finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Heandler controls Mendoza momentarily but Mendoza frees himself.

Mendoza stands up and waves to Heandler to follow him.

Heandler tries a body shot but Mendoza blocks it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mendoza connects with a nice short shot to Heandler's temple.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Mendoza counters with a nice double leg into side control. Heandler won't be happy with that.
Mendoza remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
