With a record of 16 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sheldon Cooper!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Ponjev.

Ponjev looks to throw the jab but Cooper is out of range.

Ponjev gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've been hearing good reports from Ponjev's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Cooper looking to sit in guard and control but Ponjev gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cooper escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ponjev gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ponjev avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Cooper is trying to keep Ponjev in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ponjev stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cooper swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Cooper working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ponjev doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ponjev manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sam Ponjev.
Cooper tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Ponjev manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Cooper tries to clinch but Ponjev moves out of range.
Ponjev throws a right hand that Cooper ducks under and follows up with a left that Cooper also avoids with ease.

Cooper shoots in for a takedown but Ponjev shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Ponjev bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Cooper's head.
Ponjev is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cooper.
Ponjev sizes up Cooper with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Cooper shoots in but no luck this time.
Sam Ponjev has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sheldon Cooper.

Ponjev throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cooper sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Ponjev scores with a decent looking hook.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cooper tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ponjev is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Ponjev circles away from the clinch attempt
and Ponjev counters with a nice uppercut.

Cooper misses with a takedown attempt
and Cooper takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Cooper uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ponjev.
Cooper is looking to clinch.
Cooper shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ponjev pinned against the cage. Ponjev gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Cooper takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cooper with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Ponjev to score with a decent uppercut.
Cooper moves in looking to clinch but Ponjev pushes him off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sam Ponjev is winning the standup battle so far.
Cooper with a poor takedown
and Ponjev connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ponjev throws a front kick aimed at Cooper's knee but Cooper avoids it well.
Cooper tries to close the distance and clinch but Ponjev swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Ponjev jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.

Ponjev lands with a hook. Cooper tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Cooper is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ponjev dances in with a quick combination. Cooper is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Ponjev snaps Cooper's head back. Cooper stumbles backwards against the cage. Ponjev steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Cooper's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Cooper just didn't come prepared.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Sam Ponjev!
Sam Ponjev decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
