Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jake Mendes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Tommy Ward! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Nard Betker and Aafke Stam.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mendes misses with a wild body shot. Ward tries to keep at a distance but Mendes has taken the fight into the clinch. Ward using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Mendes has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Ward breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A shot to the liver by Mendes. Beautiful body shot. Ward has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Ward gets tackled into the cage by Mendes. Mendes maintains the clinch. Ward misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mendes.
Ward manages to pull guard.
Mendes stands up from guard. Let's bang! Ward tries to clinch there but Mendes circles away.
Mendes rushes Ward and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Mendes is working for takedown but Ward is calmly controlling the position for now. Mendes has Ward pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ward manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Ward slows down the pace here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ward lands a left hand.
Mendes turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendes stands up and we're back to a striking position. Mendes uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Ward. Mendes scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Mendes scores with a jab to the body. Ward with a lazy takedown attempt and Mendes counters with a series of strikes. Ward will be more careful next time no doubt. Ward throws a jab but it's blocked by Mendes. Ward will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Ward closes the distance and clinches. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ward tries to land a knee to the head but Mendes blocks with his arms.

A head punch on the inside from Ward fails to land. Ward is trying to drag Mendes to the mat but Mendes just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Jake Mendes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tommy Ward. Ward doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Mendes lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Ward shoots in looking for a takedown but Mendes manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ward's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Mendes digs a good body shot into Ward's ribs. Mendes misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Mendes steps in with a hook that catches Ward right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Mendes follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Ward looks absolutely devastated.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Champion looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Champion wants to land a leg kick but Keskisarja is out of range. The fight stays on the outside here - Champion looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Keskisarja tries a head kick but it misses.
Champion scores with a nice head shot. Champion on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Keskisarja. Keskisarja obviously looking to wear him down.
Champion bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Keskisarja throws a nice inside leg kick. Keskisarja closes the distance and pushes Champion back into the cage. Keskisarja throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Champion blocks it with crossed arms. Champion tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Keskisarja avoids it. Keskisarja manages to break the clinch.
Keskisarja throws a body shot but no joy. Champion tries to clinch but Keskisarja moves out of range. Champion tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Champion misses with a hook. Keskisarja ducked under it nicely. Champion tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Keskisarja manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Champion stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Champion lands an overhand right. Champion on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Champion misses with a wild body shot. A combination from Champion does no damage. Champion looks for the body kick but Keskisarja saw that one coming. A slapping body kick lands there for Keskisarja. Champion fails in his attempt to clinch. Keskisarja moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Keskisarja swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Champion falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Keskisarja wins by TKO!

and Patterson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Suya is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Patterson controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Patterson working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Patterson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Suya's head. Patterson lands a couple of decent looking shots. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Suya avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Patterson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Patterson is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Suya is trying to keep Patterson in close.

Patterson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Patterson is nestled in close to Suya, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Suya tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Patterson has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Patterson landing strikes from the mount and Suya is in trouble!

Suya is rocked! Patterson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Patterson unloading with bombs! Suya is still in real trouble! Can Patterson finish him? Patterson cracks Suya with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Derek Patterson! After the fight, Derek Patterson was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.

It connects and Lang has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Didion tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lang was well out of range. Poor timing from Didion. Didion throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Lang blocks a low kick nicely. Didion has been working on his boxing with his coaches at The Exiled BJJ and Wrestling in the buildup to the fight. Lang manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Lang trying to control the position from guard on top but Didion is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Didion pulls Lang in close to prevent any damage. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Lang working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Lang trying to control the position from guard on top but Didion is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Didion looks to land a left hand but Lang moved out of range nicely. Lang tries to move into range but Didion moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Didion fails with the takedown. Didion scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Didion takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Didion tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lang swats him away and circles back towards the center. Didion wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. A combination from Didion does no damage. Didion does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. Didion closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Didion trying to control from half guard but Lang is working away. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Didion is working for an americana but Lang has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Didion was thinking about the submission.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick from Smith lands but Fear takes it in his stride.
It looks like Dark Fear has been cut. Fear tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Smith was well out of range. Poor timing from Fear. Fear misses with a wild body shot. Fear ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Smith moves away. Smith delivers a nice body kick. Fear fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Smith manages to avoid it. Smith uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fear.

I was talking to Rasputin's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Rasputin misses the knee to the body. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Coenan will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Robinson ducks under a wild hook from Coenan. Robinson misses with a hook. Coenan ducked under it nicely. Robinson lands a glancing blow to the side of Coenan's head. Robinson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Coenan uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Robinson has time to react. Coenan gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Coenan throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Robinson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Coenan throws a hook but Robinson blocks it. Robinson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Coenan uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Robinson.

He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Robinson has his hands clasped together but Coenan extends and breaks Robinson's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Coenan.
