Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Michael Van Roost!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mateus Daumas!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Daniel Blasius and Paul Aken.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Roost displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Daumas throws out the jab.
Daumas misses with a takedown attempt - Van Roost sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Michael Van Roost seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Van Roost tries to clinch but Daumas is having none of it.
Van Roost tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Daumas paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Van Roost lands a vicious elbow to the side of Daumas's head that scrambles his senses and sends him wobbling down to the canvas! Van Roost tries to finish him with strikes but Daumas still seems able to defend himself so Van Roost steps back and lets Daumas get back to his feet - he wants no part of the ground game.

That has opened up Mateus Daumas's cut even more.

Van Roost looks to score with a jab to the body but Daumas is just out of range.

Van Roost fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Daumas, pushing him back against the cage.

Van Roost manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Van Roost creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Daumas's defenses.

The cut above Mateus Daumas's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Van Roost.

Daumas takes an elbow to the forehead.

Mateus Daumas's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Clinched against the cage, Van Roost lands a big elbow that drops Daumas! The ref dives in to save him from more shots - Daumas is complaining that he's OK but he was done.

Babenco shoots in and gets a takedown into Murphy's guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Babenco slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Murphy tries to get to full guard but Babenco has control of the leg.

Babenco closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Murphy tries to buck Babenco off but Babenco is having none of it.

Babenco decides to stand up, so the ref orders Murphy to his feet.
Murphy moves in looking to clinch but Babenco pushes him off.
Murphy shoots in for a takedown but Babenco shows good takedown defense.
Murphy will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Babenco shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Babenco showed some decent athleticism there.

Horrible takedown attempt by Murphy or perhaps it was just good defense by Babenco, which made it look bad.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Joe Babenco hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Babenco has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Murphy! Can he survive? No! He's out! Babenco gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
