1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Seppo Raty! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Bathmanaban. No joy for Raty on that attempt. Raty shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Bathmanaban napping and manages to drive through into side control! The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Bathmanaban is trying to get back to his feet. Bathmanaban knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Raty on the ground. Raty remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Let's hope that Raty has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Raty looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Raty is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

You can see the frustration on Bathmanaban's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Raty trying to control the position but Bathmanaban is working away. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Raty content just to control the position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Raty can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bathmanaban is looking to escape. Raty sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Bathmanaban keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Seppo Raty wasn't active enough on the ground. Bathmanaban gets caught flat footed, as Raty shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Bathmanaban can't keep his opponent in guard - Raty advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Seppo Raty. Bathmanaban looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Raty trying to control but Bathmanaban postures up.

Seppo Raty has got the better of the ground game so far. Bathmanaban won't allow Raty to sweep him here. Raty has his foot on Bathmanaban's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bathmanaban works his way back into a safe position though. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Raty is on top in guard.

Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Raty forces his way into half guard. Raty seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Seppo Raty hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Bathmanaban bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Raty is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Bathmanaban's leg. He's managed it. Nice work. Bathmanaban trying to control from Raty's half guard. Raty has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Bathmanaban throwing strikes but missing. Raty controlling the position. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Raty tries to land a sweep but no joy. Raty lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Raty advances to half guard. Bathmanaban tries to roll over but Raty keeps him under control. Raty is taking a breather. Bathmanaban says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Raty is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bathmanaban knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Raty controls the position. Raty advances to full mount. Raty controlling the position easily from mount.

Bathmanaban is looking for a sweep. Raty is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Raty in particular looking to stall. Raty passes to full mount! Both fighters are breathing heavily. Bathmanaban has left one of his arms exposed and Raty doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Bathmanaban screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rinaldi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nikagawa. Rinaldi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Nikagawa definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Rinaldi not doing much here.
Rinaldi's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Kishimoto Nikagawa. A momentary lapse in concentration from Nikagawa enables Rinaldi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Nikagawa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Nikagawa not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rinaldi controls from within his opponent's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rinaldi stopping the sweep attempt from Nikagawa. Rinaldi sitting in guard here, content to control. Nikagawa wants to get back to his feet but Rinaldi is in a dominant position and won't allow it. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Luca Rinaldi has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Nikagawa changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rinaldi tries to avoid it but Nikagawa manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rinaldi to the ground. Rinaldi escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Rinaldi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Nikagawa's half guard. Nikagawa is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Rinaldi jumps into side control! Rinaldi creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Nikagawa gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Nikagawa wants to control but Rinaldi is keeping busy and won't allow it. Nikagawa wants to get back to his feet. Nikagawa tries to roll over but Rinaldi keeps him under control. Rinaldi uses his free foot to push down on Nikagawa's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Nikagawa. Rinaldi is in the full mount, landing strikes. Nikagawa is trying to escape the mount.

Nikagawa shoots for a takedown but Rinaldi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Luca Rinaldi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nikagawa tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rinaldi swivels and escapes. Rinaldi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rinaldi passes to full mount! Rinaldi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Rinaldi with shots to the head and body - Nikagawa looks very uncomfortable down there. Nikagawa can't escape the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Nikagawa moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Nikagawa is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Maldonado shoots in for a takedown but Joaquin shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Joaquin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fabio Maldonado. That's going to take a lot out of him. Maldonado shoots in for a double leg but Joaquin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Maldonado tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Joaquin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Joaquin. Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Nelson Ortega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dillon Pittsenbarger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ortega might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Say Yes. Nelson Ortega had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 136.2lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. This should be a great matchup!

Oh this looks tight! Barao tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Jones! That came out of nowhere!

Molina looking to sit in guard and control but Pyle gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. This has been an exciting period of action! Molina is trying to keep Pyle in close.

Molina takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Molina misses with a head shot. Pyle uses the momentum to regain guard. Molina postures up in Pyle's guard and throws a big left but Pyle blocks it. Molina with a flurry of punches that miss.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pyle preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Pyle wants to stand but Molina is controlling the position. Molina throws a big right hand that misses. Molina is in close to Pyle's body, working some short punches and elbows. Molina trying to control the position from guard on top but Pyle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Molina scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Molina throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Molina throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pyle works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Molina throws a strike but Pyle rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Molina wants to hit a switch here but Pyle passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Molina there! Molina tries to lock up and control but Pyle gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Molina is desperately trying to improve his position but Pyle has a good base and remains in mount. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Molina wants to hold on but Pyle pushes him away.
And that's the end of the fight! Jeffrey Molina showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Molina, winning every round. Will the judges agree?
