The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Apostol moves into the clinch successfully.
Apostol lands an elbow just above Flash 's eye.

That's four minutes gone in the round. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Flash working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well. An elbow from Flash crashes against the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Flash wants to control but Apostol is keeping him busy. Flash is working to tighten his grip on Apostol's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Apostol has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Flash is really squeezing tight and eventually Apostol passes out! Flash breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

And that's the end of the fight! Albert Hoffman showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hoffman , winning every round. Will the judges agree? Suzaski wants to clinch and Deisel counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Deisel missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Suzaski wants to get back to his feet. Suzaski regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Deisel. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Suzaski tries to land a sweep but no joy. He's obviously looking to slow Deisel down. Deisel rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Suzaski moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Suzaski throws a big shot that misses. Nice shot lands for Deisel. Deisel stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Suzaski. Deisel throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

That sent Bekoyan stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Bekoyan tries for a takedown but Nicolosi circles away easily and Nicolosi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
It looks like Artur Bekoyan has been cut. Nicolosi cracks Bekoyan with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Pops misses with a straight right. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Pops decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Miller on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Miller tries to get out of the position. Miller avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Pops. Miller is not content to let Pops control the position. Pops looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Miller with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Pops thows a huge punch but Miller dodges it nicely.
Pops tries to pass the half guard into mount. Miller knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Pops has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Pops throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pops trying to control from half guard but Miller is working away. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Pops connects with a nice short shot to Miller's temple. Miller is refusing to be controlled, as Pops sits in half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Miller is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Team Butcher Gym , so we'll see if he gets out of it. It looks like Pops might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Pops with the ground and pound but Miller uses the opportunity to regain guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Pops throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Miller works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Pops working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Pops rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Miller finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body. Pops avoids the body shot from Miller.
Miller tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pops was well out of range. Poor timing from Miller. Miller takes one on the button. Miller lands a leg kick that knocks Pops off balance momentarily. Miller scores with a jab to the body. Miller tries to bum rush Pops with a series of wild strikes but Pops uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Pops uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Miller.
A combination from Pops does no damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Ernie Miller will probably get the nod. Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Pops working for a guillotine from mount but Miller is in no mood to give up. Pops thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage. Pops is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Miller can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Pops can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Miller is looking to escape.

Nord throws an overhand right that lands on Li-Taylor's shoulder, as Li-Taylor tries to avoid the shot. Li-Taylor lands a nice looking kick to the body. Nord takes a step back to recover. Nord moves out of range of the body kick. Nord misses with a body kick. Nice uppercut there from Nord. Li-Taylor doesn't manage to clinch there - Nord circles away.

Nord creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Li-Taylor sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nord looks up at the clock and then as Li-Taylor takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Nord smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Li-Taylor is looking to regain half guard here but Nord keeps moving and retains side control. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Nord lands a nice forearm strike. Nord creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Li-Taylor sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Nord taking a break here but Li-Taylor is having none of it and regains half guard. Nord is nestled in close to Li-Taylor, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Li-Taylor blocking the ground and pound attempt from Nord.
And that's the end of the fight! Vidar Nord comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Nord has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Ferdinand Cortes! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Avon Barksdale! The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some wild striking there from Cortes.
A shot to the liver by Barksdale. Beautiful body shot. Cortes misses with a hook to the body
and Barksdale counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Cortes! Barksdale working the head and body with strikes. Barksdale trying to control the position but Cortes is working away. Cortes parries the strikes from Barksdale easily there. Barksdale is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Cortes to escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Barksdale throws an elbow but Cortes slips to the side and avoids it well. Cortes wants to get back to his feet but Barksdale drags him back down. Barksdale working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
That's one minute gone in the round. Barksdale looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Cortes is avoiding damage well.
Cortes avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Barksdale. Barksdale postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Barksdale working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Cortes is pushing Barksdale's head away, looking to escape. Barksdale manages to hold on to the position though. Barksdale is putting a hurting on Cortes here, landing some big shots from side control. Sloppy strikes there by Barksdale. Barksdale scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Cortes to see if he's OK. Barksdale cracks Cortes with a big right hand but Cortes just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Barksdale wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cortes keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barksdale tries to score with some ground and pound. Cortes controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Barksdale fails with an attempt to clinch.
Barksdale cracks a nice hook into Cortes's ribs. Barksdale tries to clinch up. Cortes tests Barksdale's chin there with a solid looking shot. Cortes takes a swing at Barksdale's ribcage but misses. Barksdale shoots in and bounces Cortes off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Barksdale working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barksdale trying to control but Cortes is working from the bottom. Barksdale passes into half guard. Barksdale sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Cortes defending well though. Barksdale works his way into side control. Barksdale cracks Cortes with a big elbow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Barksdale connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Cortes some visible discomfort.
Cortes regains half guard, as Barksdale was trying to land strikes. Barksdale not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Barksdale prevents Cortes from standing back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Barksdale missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Cortes tries to kick Barksdale off but Barksdale keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Avon Barksdale dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and Cortes counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Barksdale prevents a body shot from Cortes. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Barksdale misses with a hook to the ribs.

Barksdale's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! Cortes working some nice short punches in the clinch. Barksdale blocks a body shot from Cortes. Cortes lands a left hand that snaps the head of Barksdale backwards. A nice right hand lands inside from Cortes. A head punch on the inside from Barksdale fails to land. Cortes misses with some punches.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Cortes. Barksdale lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Cortes backwards. A head punch on the inside from Barksdale fails to land. Cortes goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
A short left from Cortes. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cortes tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Barksdale's elbow. Barksdale prevents a body shot from Cortes. Cortes tries to work over Barksdale's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Barksdale misses with a hook from the clinch. Cortes lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Barksdale is rocked! Barksdale misses with a hook to the ribs.
Barksdale swings wildly with an uppercut but Cortes uses good head movement to avoid it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Barksdale misses with a punch to the body.
Cortes lands with a right to the head. Barksdale is still on wobbly legs! Can Cortes finish him? Cortes lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Cortes lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Barksdale to his knees! Cortes keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
