The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cruz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Griffin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Cruz connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Griffin some visible discomfort.
Griffin throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Griffin is looking to regain half guard here but Cruz keeps moving and retains side control.

We've been informed that Griffin has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

Cruz lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Griffin will be OK.
