12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Olivier Levasseur! The judges for this bout are Ben Hemmingworth, Francis DeMontford and Ron Honeybunn.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Levasseur shoots and misses and Spencer counters with a nice body shot. Levasseur uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Spencer.
Spencer throws a looping overhand right but Levasseur ducks down to avoid it. Spencer stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Spencer wants it to stay on the feet. Levasseur looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Levasseur with the ground and pound but Spencer uses the opportunity to regain guard. Levasseur throws a strike but Spencer rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Spencer won't allow Levasseur to sweep him here. Spencer trying to control but Levasseur is working from the bottom. Spencer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Levasseur is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Levasseur throwing strikes but missing, from side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Levasseur has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Spencer is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Levasseur yanks on the arm and Spencer is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Levasseur.

That took the wind out of him momentarily. Silva blocks a head kick by Carter.
Carter looks to land a combination but Silva avoids it well. Silva staying out of range there. Carter lands with a nice combination. Silva backs away looking to recover. Silva is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Carter wants to clinch up but Silva keeps it at a distance. Silva fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Carter. Carter throws a body punch but Silva moves out of range. Carter throws a head kick but Silva moves out of range.

That had to hurt Carter. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Silva lands a nice looking body kick. Carter feints and then cracks Silva's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Silva down. Carter misses with a straight left. Carter scores with a nice head shot. A solid body kick from Silva. Carter looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Carter misses with a low kick. Silva gets a clinch. I was talking to Silva's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Carter has had enough of the clinch but Silva keeps him there for the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Silva can't find room to land a body shot as Carter controls the action.
Silva prevents Carter from breaking the clinch. Carter tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Silva just stands there and leans against the cage. Still in the clinch, Silva scores with a nice short uppercut. Silva swings wildly with an uppercut but Carter uses good head movement to avoid it. Silva works on Carter's body with a couple of short punches. Silva misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Silva looks for the body kick but Carter saw that one coming. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Carter throws a jab when Silva was well out of range. Silva ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Carter moves away. Silva fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Carter. Silva throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Rubin Carter will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Silva has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Carter throws a lazy right hand but Silva sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Carter throws a body punch but Silva moves out of range. Silva misses with a head kick.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Carter tries to clinch there but Silva circles away.

Silva throws a leg kick which misses Carter's front leg but catches the back leg as Carter tries to avoid it. Carter is still on wobbly legs! Can Silva finish him? Silva lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Carter looks to land a combination but Silva avoids it well. Carter is holding his hands too far apart here. Silva throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Carter is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gago shoots in and drives through. Hoffer sprawls well. Gago dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Hoffer. That did some damage! Gago scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Gago fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Hoffer misses with a straight right. Gago shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hoffer is trying to defend but Gago finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Hoffer tries to get to full guard but Gago has control of the leg. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hoffer defends it well. Hoffer gets full guard. Hoffer is adopting a defensive guard. Jimmy Hoffer is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Gago won't allow Hoffer to sweep him here. Igor Gago overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hoffer not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hoffer manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Gago manages to get himself to full guard.
Hoffer with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Hoffer trying to control the position from guard on top but Gago is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Gago working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hoffer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hoffer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Hoffer seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
