Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daniel Hakob! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lyle Fretwell! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Lou da Vinci and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hakob tries to close the distance and clinch but Fretwell swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Fretwell throws a hook but Hakob blocks it. Fretwell throws a hook but Hakob blocks it. Fretwell is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hakob sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Fretwell bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Fretwell shoots for a takedown but Hakob saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Hakob moves out of range as Fretwell strikes. Hakob pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Daniel Hakob seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Fretwell shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Fretwell trying to control the action but Hakob is working from the bottom. Fretwell tries to pass to full mount but Hakob defends it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hakob is staying active underneath Fretwell, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Hakob might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Fretwell tries to pass to full mount but Hakob defends it. Fretwell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hakob defends it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hakob is looking to control Fretwell's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hakob avoid being mounted? Fretwell passes into side control, despite Hakob's attempt to control the position.
Fretwell lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Fretwell has an Americana. Hakob didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Fretwell is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Fretwell hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
