The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ankka changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kasumia tries to avoid it but Ankka manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kasumia to the ground. Kasumia escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Aku Ankka seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Kakihara is desperately trying to improve his position but Katsuro has a good base and remains in mount.

Kakihara tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Katsuro just stands there and leans against the ropes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Takashi Kakihara. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Katsuro must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Katsuro has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kakihara can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Katsuro pulls Kakihara in close to his closed guard and prevents Kakihara from doing any damage or advancing position.

Kakihara has gone for a leg lock! Katsuro slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kakihara's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

and Kakihara counters with a shoot takedown. Katsuro fights it but they end up in guard.

Katsuro had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Kakihara is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Katsuro Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Kakihara's back instead.

Kakihara is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Katsuro gets his way!

Kakihara fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Katsuro sprawls well initially but Kakihara persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Katsuro is trying to stand up here but Kakihara is controlling him well.

Kakihara decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

and Katsuro moves into the clinch.
Katsuro crunches a lovely knee into Kakihara's ribcage.
Katsuro scores a nice knee to the body.
Kakihara fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Katsuro will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Kakihara up against the ropes.

Katsuro breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Katsuro counters with a one-two to the body.

Kakihara is rocked!
A head kick by Katsuro - that's a beauty! Kakihara is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Katsuro can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 8:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Ken Kei Katsuro!
