The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gomez throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Gomez showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Gibson.

Gomez shoots for a double leg takedown but Gibson sprawls well. He's pushed Gomez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Gibson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gomez moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Gomez feints and as Gibson raises his hands in defense, Gomez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Gibson is looking to stand up but Gomez isn't so interested in that idea. Duarte is trying hard to land a takedown here. Wright sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Wright gets the takedown into side control. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Duarte defending against the ground and pound. Duarte regains half guard, as Wright was trying to land strikes. Duarte is looking to control Wright's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Duarte avoid being mounted? Duarte is looking to reverse the position. Wright in side control lands a decent elbow.

I was talking to Escargesa's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Escargesa wants to break free but Walker has control.
