The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gomes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Lemieux tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gomes is in Lemieux's guard.
Gomes sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lemieux's guard.
Lemieux is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Lemieux really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lemieux is trying to maintain the position but Gomes is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Gomes decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lemieux is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Lemieux enables Gomes to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lemieux manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Lemieux working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gomes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gomes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Griever comes to the cage accompanied by X-Files Theme. Scott Norton told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! Griever cracks Norton with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Griever has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Norton to stand back up!
