Carlson comes into the arena with Kanye West - Stronger blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De La Cruz with a lazy takedown attempt and Carlson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Carlson forces De La Cruz back against the cage and clinches. Carlson will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning De La Cruz up against the cage. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that De La Cruz has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Carlson scores with a shot to the side of De La Cruz's head. De La Cruz wants to take the fight to the mat but Carlson manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Carlson working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. De La Cruz pulls guard effortlessly. De La Cruz has a closed guard, preventing Carlson from standing up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. De La Cruz is trying to keep Carlson in close.
De La Cruz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carlson's guard.

De La Cruz prevents Carlson from getting back to his feet. Carlson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. De La Cruz drops back looking for a leg! Carlson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Carlson manages to kick De La Cruz off! De La Cruz jumps back into Carlson's guard. Carlson wants to get back to his feet but De La Cruz is in a dominant position and won't allow it. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. De La Cruz trying to control but Carlson is working from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. De La Cruz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Carlson avoids it really well and circles away. Carl Carlson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gilbert De La Cruz. De La Cruz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Carlson rushes De La Cruz and presses him up against the cage.

Carlson lands a big right hand that sends De La Cruz crashing to the mat! Carlson stays standing though and waves De La Cruz back to his feet!
De La Cruz is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Carlson instigates a clinch. De La Cruz is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Carlson drops De La Cruz onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! De La Cruz is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet! De La Cruz is still on wobbly legs! Can Carlson finish him? Carlson lands a big right hand that drops De La Cruz! The killer instinct kicks in and Carlson finishes his opponent with a series of strikes from mount. A dominating finish by Carlson!
