The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bates darts in and clinches Neves Jr up against the cage.
Neves Jr is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Bates lands an uppercut.
A nice right hand lands inside from Bates.

Neves Jr changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bates fights it off and pushes away nicely.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Messer connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between De Los Santos's hands.
De Los Santos has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Combat Fitness in the buildup to the fight.
Messer tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but De Los Santos was well out of range. Poor timing from Messer.
Marcos De Los Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Messer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
De Los Santos misses with a takedown
and Messer counters with a nice uppercut.
De Los Santos looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
De Los Santos with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Messer to score with a decent uppercut.
Messer connects with a body shot that sends De Los Santos's belly button to the back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Messer dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Messer throws a lazy right hand but De Los Santos sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
De Los Santos rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Messer moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Messer cracks De Los Santos with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Messer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

De Los Santos decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
De Los Santos seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Messer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Messer is looking for a sweep. De Los Santos is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
De Los Santos lands with a punch from half guard.
De Los Santos is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Messer is hurt! He's hurt bad - De Los Santos fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Messer from any more punishment! Congratulations to De Los Santos! Great finish!

After the fight, Marcos De Los Santos was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.

Ellis feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Smith sprawling to the canvas! Smith rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Ellis finish him?!

Smith doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Smith drops his hands momentarily. Ellis doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Smith staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Smith doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.

Milan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Brady paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Milan takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Brady cracks Milan with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Milan fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Brady, pushing him back against the cage.
Brady misses with a punch on the inside.
Brady wants a takedown.
Brady blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Brady has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Milan clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Brady keeps control of the position as Milan tries to break free.
Brady has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Brady has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Milan has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
You can see the frustration on Milan's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Milan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brady. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Milan can do anything to dispel that myth.

Brady is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Milan can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Brady has hold of Milan's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Milan manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Brady is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Milan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Milan shrugs it off.

Shango has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
