We've been informed that Timer has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

MacKaye on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

MacKaye looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Kovalev throws a combination. MacKaye tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

MacKaye instigates a clinch.
MacKaye blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
MacKaye blocks an uppercut.
MacKaye jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kovalev walks away with a smile on his face. MacKaye gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Kovalev counters with a three punch combo that has MacKaye backing up. MacKaye nods at Kovalev to acknowledge the strikes.

Kovalev cracks MacKaye with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

and MacKaye takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

MacKaye closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
