The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A punch combination from Vasara misses. Uxxarest ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Vasara throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Uxxarest counters with a straight right hand. Uxxarest just misses with a punch to the body.
Uxxarest scores with a jab to the body. The fight stays on the outside here - Vasara looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Vasara throws a looping overhand right but Uxxarest ducks down to avoid it. A nice side step and Uxxarest releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Vasara takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Uxxarest fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. A jab from Vasara does it's job there. Uxxarest fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Vasara. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Uxxarest looks to throw the jab but Vasara is out of range. Good leg kick by Uxxarest there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Vasara throws a sloppy head kick and Uxxarest moves out of range easily. Despite the aggression on Uxxarest's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter. A shot to the liver by Uxxarest. Beautiful body shot. Uxxarest works Vasara's body with a nice hook. Uxxarest lands a slapping body shot.
That's one minute gone in the round. Uxxarest throws a combination. Vasara tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
It looks like Sami Vasara has been cut. Uxxarest moves into range and clinches up with Vasara. Uxxarest throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Vasaras head. Uxxarest throws a punch but it's blocked by Vasara. Uxxarest tries to work over Vasara's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Uxxarest lands a shot to the body. Vasara blocks a body shot from Uxxarest. A nice right hand lands inside from Uxxarest. Vasara is looking to break free of the clinch but Uxxarest has double underhooks. Vasara misses with a hook to the ribs.

Vasara looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Uxxarest tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked. Uxxarest is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Vasara is defending well. Vasara goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Uxxarest blocks an elbow strike. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Uxxarest doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Vasara misses with a short punch on the inside. Vasara's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Uxxarest fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Uxxarest is working Vasara over against the cage. Uxxarest has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Vasara seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Uxxarest can turn it around. Vasara is breathing heavily. Vasara is looking to control Uxxarest's arms but Uxxarest gets an underhook and turns him. Now Vasara has his back to the cage. Uxxarest working some nice short punches in the clinch. Vasara manages to break the clinch.

Uxxarest pushes Vasara away with a front kick. Vasara moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Vasara takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Vasara is rocked! Uxxarest cracks Vasara with a left hook right on the temple and Vasara goes down! He's out! Referee! Stop the fight! Uxxarest lands a few more punches before the dopey ref steps in - hopefully Vasara is OK!

and Martel cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Martel misses the shot to the body. Shimizu missing with a left hand there. Martel was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Martel throws a wild body kick that Shimizu sees coming a mile off. We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Shimizu has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Martel just misses with a punch to the body.

Shimizu rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Martel moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Martel misses the jab. Martel is rocked! Shimizu scores with a sloppy right hand. Martel should have avoided that one. Oh Martel is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Martel attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Shimizu unleashes a big counter combination but Martel bobs and weaves and avoids any damage. Martel walks into a jab. A low kick from Martel is predictable there and Shimizu counters by gaining double undehooks. He picks up Martel and carries him across to his own corner. OH, that's a monster slam and Martel is out cold! A brutal end to the fight and credit to Shimizu for not following up with any more shots. He recognised that Martel was out. Good sportsmanship.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Slam). Yuya Shimizu! After winning the bout, Yuya Shimizu thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility. The defeated Charles Martel had this to say: 'My opponent was the better man tonight but that doesn't mean there's no after party. Come on down to the Spearmint Rhino, first lap dance is on me!'.

Fluke has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Fluke throws a looping overhand right but Callaghan ducks down to avoid it. Fluke avoids the head kick by Callaghan.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Callaghan dips to his left and cracks Fluke with an uppercut! Fluke is still on wobbly legs! Can Callaghan finish him? Fluke throws an overhand right that lands on Callaghan's shoulder, as Callaghan tries to avoid the shot. Callaghan closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Fluke goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. BOOM! Callaghan lands a beautiful left hook that drops Fluke. Fluke tries to recover but Callaghan is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Fluke lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Jean-Marc Mormeck seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mormeck scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Santa Cruz swings away with a leg kick that misses. Mormeck paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Mormeck attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Santa Cruz uses his free foot to push down on Mormeck's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mormeck. Santa Cruz is landing with some decent strikes but Mormeck is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Mormeck really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Santa Cruz lands a couple of good shots and Mormeck has given up his back, trying to escape the position! Santa Cruz lands an elbow to the side of the head. Mormeck tries to break free.

He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Santa Cruz for as long as he can get away with. Mormeck is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Santa Cruz is defending well though. Mormeck let's go of the attempt for now. Mormeck has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Santa Cruz has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

A less than humble Jean-Marc Mormeck misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities. Rafael Santa Cruz was interviewed post fight and said 'That bullshit, I'm going to appeal that decision it sucks balls, fuck it!'.

Katsu Higashikuni seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A shot to the liver by Higashikuni. Higashikuni throws out a loose jab but oCrazy uses good head movement to avoid it. oCrazy keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
We've been hearing reports that Higashikuni has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Higashikuni connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Some wild striking there from Higashikuni.
And oCrazy responds with a good body kick, but Higashikuni manages to step out the way in time. oCrazy thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Higashikuni if he has to take too many more of those.

Manhoef fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Gutz has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Manhoef doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Gutz dives in for a single leg takedown but Manhoef sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Gutz swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Manhoef feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gutz's calf. Gutz looks to throw the jab but Manhoef is out of range. Manhoef looks like he wants to counter punch here. Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
