The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rio fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. War sprawls well initially but Rio persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
War wants to get back to his feet.
War really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rio. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rio is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Rio is looking to take a break and control but War is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rio seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down War for as long as he can get away with.

Holmdona throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Holmdona lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Bin Apu has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Bin Apu will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

I was talking to Holmdona's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
