Speed feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Trevino uses his free foot to push down on Speed's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Speed.
Speed is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Speed might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Trevino haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Trevino takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
BOOM! Trevino connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Trevino is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Speed can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Speed takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Trevino sizes up Speed with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Trevino shoots for a double leg takedown but Speed sprawls well. He's pushed Trevino's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Speed rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Trevino moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Trevino sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Trevino closes the distance and clinches up with Speed, looking for a takedown. Trevino pushes Speed against the cage but Speed circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Trevino takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Trevino shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Speed but Speed pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Trevino tries to score a power double leg takedown but Speed sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Trevino somewhat.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Lee Trevino.
Well Trevino has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

In defeat, Abel Speed stepped up to the mic, saying 'Shouldn't have got too stoned and missed my flight. Oh well maybe a rematch is in order?'.
