Matsuo throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

Fate will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Matsuo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Matsuo wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Matsuo attempts a counter takedown but Fate avoids it well and moves away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fate is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Matsuo will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Matsuo is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Fate has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Fate there as he acknowledges the shot.
Twisted Fate has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Damian Matsuo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Matsuo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vraganza.
It seemed like Alves was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Alves misses with a head kick.
Alves slaps away a takedown attempt from Vraganza, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Alves is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Alves displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Vraganza.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vrando Vraganza. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Vraganza looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A little jabbing left from Alves on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Alves wanted to stand there but Vraganza had control of the position.
Alves is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Vraganza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Alves's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Alves can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Vraganza is looking to pass into half guard but Alves pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Alves is in guard.

Alves wants to stand but Vraganza has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Vraganza manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Alves manages to get himself to full guard.

Vraganza advances position into side control!

Vraganza is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Alves is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Vraganza tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Alves wants to get back to his feet but Vraganza is dominant here and he's now got Alves's back!

Vraganza is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Alves won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Vraganza off his unconscious opponent!
