The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez goes for a double leg but Kowalski avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kowalski continues to drive forward.
Mendez tries to clinch but Kowalski is having none of it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Kowalski drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kowalski jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kowalski postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mendez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kowalski, into his guard.

Kowalski has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mendez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

I think Franks might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Time Bomb by Rancid . These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.
