Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
25 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Hector Williams! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
20 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ava Noel! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Noel takes one to the chin there. Williams moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Ava Noel has been cut. Williams jabs Noel to the body, keeping him at a distance. Noel walks forward, straight into a front kick from Williams. Noel tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Williams manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Williams connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Noel waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Williams. Williams connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Noel takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Noel scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Noel misses with a straight right. Williams thows a left - swing and a miss! Williams definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Williams ducks right into an uppercut from Noel. Williams bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Noel's head. Noel takes a shot right to the bread basket. Williams checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Noel goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Noel takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Williams connects with a body shot. Noel misses the jab. Williams circles away from the clinch attempt.
Noel takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Noel is rocked! Noel thows a left - swing and a miss! Noel is still on wobbly legs! Can Williams finish him? Noel looks to throw the jab but Williams is out of range. Noel seems to have recovered his senses. Williams fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Noel has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Noel avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Noel lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected. Williams connects with a leg kick. Noel looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Williams on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Noel takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Noel steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Williams. Noel throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Williams lands with an overhand left. Williams jabs Noel right on the nose. Noel blinks but takes it well. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Noel rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Williams counters with a huge left! Noel is in big trouble! He's backing up but Williams isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Noel from any more damage. A dominating finish by Williams!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Simengwa moves in looking to clinch but Ribeiro Da Silva pushes him off. Simengwa takes the fight into the clinch. Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Ribeiro Da Silva. Ribeiro Da Silva manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Ribeiro Da Silva seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression. Simengwa's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Simengwa wants a takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ribeiro Da Silva is stalling here.

Joao Ribeiro Da Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Baraka Simengwa. The referee is keeping an eye on Simengwa - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Simengwa has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Ribeiro Da Silva tries a knee to the head but Simengwa blocks it.
Simengwa wants the takedown. Ribeiro Da Silva is fighting it off but Simengwa persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ribeiro Da Silva's guard against the cage. Simengwa anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Ribeiro Da Silva and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Simengwa slips an arm under Ribeiro Da Silva chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Simengwa has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Simengwa is squeezing on Ribeiro Da Silva like an anaconda would it's prey. Ribeiro Da Silva fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Zanotto throws a shot from downtown. Quin moves away and avoids it. Quin throws out a counter right but Zanotto avoids it with no problem. Zanotto throws a body shot but no joy. Zanotto misses the shot to the body. Zanotto digs a good hook to Quin's body.
Quin throws a series of punches but Zanotto avoids them all with ease. Quin keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Zanotto. Zanotto looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Zanotto swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Quin fails with the takedown. Zanotto avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Ben Zanotto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Quin lands a body shot.

Quin swings for the body but Zanotto moves out of range.
Quin has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Quin ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Zanotto walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Quin misses with a straight left. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Quin scores with a nice right hand.

and Quin counters with a nice double leg into guard. Zanotto has his feet on Quin's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. A big left from Quin misses. Quin closes the distance and lands a one-two. Quin jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Zanotto shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Quin sprawls well. Quin wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Zanotto gets slowly back to his feet. Zanotto gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Quin. Quin lands a jab. Quin is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Quin staying out of range there. Zanotto throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Zanotto closes this distance looking for a takedown but Quin circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Zanotto. That's going to take a lot out of him. Quin is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Zanotto. Quin has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Excellent takedown into side control there by Zanotto. Quin gets back to half guard. Zanotto prevents Quin from improving his position. Quin manages to get to full guard.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Quin looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Matt Quin seems to be getting the better of the standup. Zanotto scores with a jab to the body. Zanotto takes one to the chin there. Quin has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Zanotto swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Quin drops his hands momentarily and Zanotto takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. and Quin counters with a nice uppercut. Zanotto throws out a loose jab but Quin uses good head movement to avoid it. Zanotto throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Zanotto misses the jab. Quin takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Zanotto slips a jab from Quin. As Quin backs away, Zanotto returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

Quin is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Quin is trying to maintain the position but Zanotto is very close to passing his half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quin avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Zanotto. Jalo works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Jalo on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Jalo uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Aybara. Aybara throws a hook but Jalo avoids it easily. Jalo wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Jalo throws a looping overhand right but Aybara ducks down to avoid it. Aybara throws a right hand that misses
and Jalo counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Jalo feints and then cracks Aybara's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Aybara down. Jalo misses with an uppercut

Jalo is looking to chop away at Aybara's legs. Jalo lands with a nice body punch. Aybara lands with an overhand left. Aybara looks to land a combination but Jalo avoids it well. It looked like Jalo wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Aybara on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Aybara tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jalo was well out of range. Poor timing from Aybara. Jalo feinted there with a counter leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aybara steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Jalo. Jalo throws an overhand right that lands on Aybara's shoulder, as Aybara tries to avoid the shot. Aybara tests Jalo's chin there with a solid looking shot. Aybara connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Jalo connects with a right hand. Aybara shakes it off. Jalo throws a right hand that misses
and Aybara counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Aybara cracks the inside of Jalo's front leg. Jalo is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Aybara. A jab lands there for Jalo. Jalo throws a nice outside leg kick. Aybara misses with a hook to the body
and Jalo cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Aybara is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! I was talking to Donnelly's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Donnelly lands a nice uppercut. Peltola escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Drost dives into side control looking to finish. Drost tries to score with some ground and pound. Winnfield controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Drost wants to lay and pray for a moment but Winnfield keeps working. Drost creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Winnfield sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Drost will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Drost wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Winnfield, who protects the arm well.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Drost connects with a nice short shot to Winnfield's temple. We've been informed that McTearson has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Rufus McTearson. Well McTearson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. That was a close round but I would say that Nero Padilla will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nero Padilla. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Padilla, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
