2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tedy Kanalarz! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Astra swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
so Kanalarz counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Astra tries to land a sweep but no joy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Astra trying to keep a closed guard but Kanalarz is proving a slippery customer.
Kanalarz working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Astra working for a triangle but Kanalarz defends it easily.

That's going to take a lot out of Tedy Kanalarz. Kanalarz slaps away a takedown attempt from Astra, before circling back to the center of the mat. A head kick misses from Kanalarz. Astra throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Astra scores with a kick to the body.
Astra turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. Kanalarz closes the distance and clinches.

Kanalarz will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Astra up against the cage. Astra is trying to drag Kanalarz to the mat but Kanalarz just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Kanalarz wants to take the fight to the mat but Astra manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Kanalarz on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Astra is trying to pull guard but Kanalarz has him pressed against the cage. Kanalarz escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kanalarz clinches up with Astra and pushes him back against the cage. Kanalarz has had enough of the clinch but Astra keeps him there for the moment. Kanalarz jumps guard.
Kanalarz wants to sweep here but Astra controlling him for the moment. Astra is looking to work some ground and pound but Kanalarz has wrist control. Astra won't allow Kanalarz to sweep him here. Astra keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Astra shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Kanalarz but Kanalarz pushes him off and we're back to square one. Kanalarz scores with a takedown into Astra's guard. Astra manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Kanalarz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kanalarz passes into half guard. Astra wants to control but Kanalarz is keeping busy and won't allow it. Kanalarz tries to stand and escape but Astra is controlling the position. Kanalarz looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Kanalarz wants to get back to his feet.

Astra tries to reverse the position but Kanalarz maintains control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kanalarz raining down shots from the mount! Astra wants to control but Kanalarz is having none of it. Kanalarz cracks Astra with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Astra is in a horrible position here. Kanalarz smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ho throws a right and a left that Wstydliwy avoids nicely. Wstydliwy throws a hook but Ho blocks it. Ho swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Wstydliwy lands with a kick to the temple. Ho shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?" Ho lands a left and a right that sends Wstydliwy crashing to the canvas! Ho dives into mount looking to finish!
Wstydliwy is rocked! Ho has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ho looking to control and managing it successfully. Ho working Wstydliwy over with strikes here. Wstydliwy is still in real trouble! Can Ho finish him? The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Eaton connects with a crisp jab. Morales forces Eaton back against the cage and clinches. Morales tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Eaton's elbow. Eaton will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Morales up against the cage. Morales misses with a hook from the clinch. Morales swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Nick Alvarez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rexar looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Alvarez appears to be looking for a big counter. Alvarez with a hook. Alvarez shoots in but Rexar avoids the takedown attempt easily. Rexar paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Alvarez looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Alvarez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Rexar defends well and Alvarez ends up having to push Rexar into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Alvarez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Rexar misses with an uppercut. Alvarez saw that one coming. Alvarez has his takedown stuffed and Rexar counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Rexar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Alvarez circles away quickly and effectively. Alvarez changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rexar connects with a jab. Rexar takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A lazy left from Rexar finds it's target. This has been an exciting period of action! Rexar is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Rexar chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Rexar takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Rexar misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Alvarez.
Rexar has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Rexar there as he acknowledges the shot. Alvarez shoots in for a takedown but Rexar shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Rexar throws a sloppy body shot
and Alvarez counters with a straight right hand. Alvarez fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Rexar misses with a few strikes there.

Tyler Rexar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Both fighters are breathing heavily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rexar throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Alvarez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Alvarez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rexar fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Alvarez manages to avoid it. Alvarez shoots for a takedown but Rexar saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Rexar throws a low kick but it's checked well by Alvarez. Good leg kick by Rexar there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Alvarez fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Alvarez fails in his attempt to clinch. Rexar displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Alvarez. Alvarez takes the fight into the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alvarez blocks an uppercut.
Rexar stalls. Rexar blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Alvarez pulls guard. Rexar controlling from the top position. Alvarez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rexar wants to control but Alvarez is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rexar is trying to stand up here but Alvarez is controlling him well. Alvarez perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Rexar is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Alvarez has latched onto it... Big trouble! Alvarez pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Rexar is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Alvarez!
