Rua lands some shots froms side control. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Henrique is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith gets a takedown into half guard. Elliente is refusing to be controlled, as Smith sits in half guard. Smith thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Elliente to regain full guard. Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Smith preventing the sweep. Smith wants to control from the top but Elliente keeps moving. Smith preventing the sweep. Smith cracks a nice hook into Elliente's ribs. Austin Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Smith scores with a jab to the head.
Smith shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Elliente's guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Elliente tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Smith is looking to take a break and control but Elliente is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Elliente is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Smith swings around for an armbar but Elliente sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Smith's guard. Smith had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Elliente defends it easily.
