The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mangold defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Cartwright. Mangold is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cartwright's half guard. Cartwright wants to get back to full guard. Mangold looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cartwright with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Mangold looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A punch combination from Jakovlev misses. Palmer shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Palmer is trying to control the action in half guard but Jakovlev is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Jakovlev is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Palmer is controlling the pace.

Hoi has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Mars. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mars lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Mars throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hoi. Mars tries to land a front kick but Hoi steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Mars throws a half hearted mid kick. It seemed like Hoi was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Mars uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hoi.

Vincent Mars's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Mars is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hoi can do to turn this around? Jeez, Vincent Mars's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked. A slow jab from Hoi misses its intended target. Oh Mars is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Nice body kick there by Mars. Hoi throws a wild body kick that Mars sees coming a mile off. Mars checks a leg kick. Hoi steps in with a hook that catches Mars right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Hoi follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Mars looks absolutely devastated.
