The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Manfredo Jr jabbing away but nothing is landing. Choy drives through with a takedown into guard. Choy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Manfredo Jr is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Choy, into his guard. Manfredo Jr stopping the sweep attempt from Choy. Manfredo Jr controls from within his opponent's guard. Choy wants to hit a switch here but Manfredo Jr passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Choy there! Choy is looking to improve his position but Manfredo Jr isn't that keen on the idea.
That's one minute gone in the round. Choy is working hard here to advance position. Manfredo Jr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Choy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Manfredo Jr looking to control and managing it successfully.

Manfredo Jr controlling his opponent. Manfredo Jr trying to control but Choy is having none of it. Choy can't escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Choy slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Manfredo Jr is controlling the pace.
Let's hope that Manfredo Jr has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Choy is looking to improve his position.

Not really close to a finish though. Manfredo Jr tries to get back to half guard but can't. Choy working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Choy swings around for an armbar but Manfredo Jr sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Choy's guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Choy wants to improve his position but instead Manfredo Jr has moved into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Choy makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Choy. Manfredo Jr preventing the sweep. Choy is looking for a triangle but Manfredo Jr pushes his legs off easily.

Manfredo Jr scores with a nice strike. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Choy looks for a takedown but Manfredo Jr sprawls well. Manfredo Jr takes the fight into the clinch. Manfredo Jr breaks the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Manfredo Jr fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Choy, pushing him back against the cage. Manfredo Jr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Choy looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Choy shoots for a takedown but Manfredo Jr saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Choy. That's going to take a lot out of him. Manfredo Jr misses with a jab, cross combination.
Choy closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Manfredo Jr smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Manfredo Jr lands a left and a right that send Choy crashing to the mat, dazed. Manfredo Jr thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

It looks like Eddie Choy has been cut. Manfredo Jr misses the jab. Oh Choy is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Manfredo Jr connects with a jab, followed by a picture perfect straight right that sends Choy to the canvas, out cold! What a finish by Manfredo Jr!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cesar throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Cesar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Cesar fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Nichols misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cesar.
Nichols fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cesar uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Nichols. A combination from Cesar does no damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cesar takes a shot right to the bread basket. Cesar throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nichols. Cesar shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Cesar throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

and Cesar counters with a solid body kick. Cesar tries for a takedown but Nichols circles away easily and Nichols counters with a stiff right hand. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Leonidus Cesar. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nichols dips to his left and cracks Cesar with an uppercut! Nichols connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Nichols throws a nice looking combination but Cesar bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Nichols lands a jab to the nose. This has been an exciting period of action! A decent looking cross lands there for Nichols. Nichols with a jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cesar has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Nichols throws out a powerful jab. Nichols looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Cesar takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Nichols lands a nice looking body shot.

Nichols stuns Cesar with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Leonidus Cesar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nichols throws a shot to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nichols throws a series of punches but Cesar avoids them all with ease. Nichols misses with a series of wild punches.
Nichols goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Nichols moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Nichols misses with the combination.

Elijah Nichols is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nichols looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Elijah Nichols dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Nichols's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Nichols duly obliges. A head kick by Cesar misses and Nichols counters with a series of strikes. Cesar will be more careful next time no doubt. The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Nichols. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man. Cesar gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Cesar is rocked! Nichols closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Cesar out cold! Cesar corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cod closes the distance and clinches up with Sonnen, looking for a takedown. Cod pushes Sonnen against the cage but Sonnen circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Sonnen gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Cod counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Cod is working for a submission of some sort.

Sonnen kicks off Cod and gets to his feet. Sonnen misses with a takedown attempt and Cod counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sonnen! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Cod is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Sonnen is surviving well by controlling Cod's body position as best he can. Sonnen is trying to escape the mount.

Cod is breathing heavily. Sonnen's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cod punching from mount but Sonnen doing a good job of avoiding damage. Sonnen gets back to half guard. Cod is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Sonnen makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Sonnen stuffs the takedown. Sonnen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Cod counters with a head kick. That will keep Sonnen thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Manny Cod has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chael Sonnen. Sonnen looking for a takedown here - he's got it. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sonnen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sonnen wants to pass the guard but Cod is keeping the position. Sonnen thows a big elbow that misses. Cod trying to keep a closed guard but Sonnen is proving a slippery customer.
Sonnen throws a strike but Cod rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Cod postures up in Sonnen's guard and throws a big left but Sonnen blocks it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sonnen is on top in guard.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Sonnen working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Sonnen landing with the ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cod keeping moving, preventing Sonnen from controlling successfully. Sonnen in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Cod avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Sonnen looking to sit in guard and control but Cod gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Sonnen wants to sweep but no luck. Sonnen looking to control.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Sonnen fails with the takedown. Sonnen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cod swivels and escapes. Cod decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Cod is working for a submission of some sort.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Sonnen makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sonnen. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That will keep Sonnen thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Manny Cod has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chael Sonnen.

Cod is doing well to control the position and prevent Sonnen from advancing to side control. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Sonnen thows a huge punch but Cod dodges it nicely.

Sonnen is trying to control the action in half guard but Cod is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Sonnen shoots in for a takedown but Cod shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Sonnen shoots in but Cod avoids the takedown attempt easily. Sonnen lands with a hook. Cod tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sonnen. Cod doesn't succeed with the takedown and Sonnen counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Sonnen thows a big elbow that misses. Sonnen looking to sit in guard and control but Cod gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Cod throws a big right hand that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sonnen pulls Cod in close to prevent any damage. Cod won't allow Sonnen to sweep him here. Sonnen wants to control the position but Cod says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Sonnen trying to control but Cod postures up.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Sonnen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Cod counters with a takedown into side control. The strikes coming from Cod are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Sonnen is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Cod thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sonnen's head. Cod is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Cod wants to work for an arm triangle but Sonnen is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Manny Cod. Well Cod has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
