2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mat Trzeci! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Leandro Rodrigues and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Second connects with an inside leg kick. Second falls off balance throwing a combination
so Trzeci counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Trzeci throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Second works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Trzeci trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Trzeci throws an elbow that misses. Second uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Trzeci's guard. Nice move by Second! Trzeci is pulling down on Second's head. It's preventing any offense from Second, at least for the moment. Second looking to sit in guard and control but Trzeci gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Second working a defensive guard here.

That's one minute gone in the round. Trzeci is in close to Second's body, working some short punches and elbows. Trzeci throws a big right hand that misses. Trzeci stops Second from standing up. Second trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful. Trzeci must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Trzeci stands and steps away. Second gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Second controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Second managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Trzeci.
Second on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Second tries to get out of the position. Trzeci misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Trzeci trying to control the action but Second is working from the bottom. Second dodges the ground and pound from Trzeci.

Trzeci working the strikes but Second uses the opportunity to regain half guard. Trzeci decides to stand and escape the position. Second really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. A looping hook to the body misses from Second. Trzeci does a little dance to reset his feet. Trzeci blocks a leg kick. Trzeci tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Second misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Trzeci.
Second misses with a wild body shot. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Trzeci shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Trzeci was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Second bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Second misses with a shot to the body and Trzeci counters with a straight right hand. Second pushes Trzeci away with a front kick. A nice combination there by Trzeci.
Second throws a head kick that misses. Trzeci throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Trzeci looks to throw the jab but Second is out of range. Second fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Second keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

and Trzeci counters with a nice double leg into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Trzeci trying to control but Second is working from the bottom. Second trying to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Trzeci keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Second's head. Trzeci trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Trzeci missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Trzeci throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Trzeci with a nice head shot there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Trzeci gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Some bone on bone action there as Trzeci checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Trzeci keeps the fight on the outside. Trzeci stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Second. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mat Trzeci dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Mat Second is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Second fails in his attempt to clinch.

Trzeci drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Second defends it well. A head kick misses from Second. Trzeci feints the counter takedown. Second throws a sloppy head kick and Trzeci moves out of range easily. A solid leg kick lands there for Second.

That must be slowing him down. Second lands a nice looking kick to the body. Trzeci takes a step back to recover. Second is looking to wear down Trzeci with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Trzeci takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

A nice inside leg kick there by Second. That's going to slow Trzeci down. Trzeci takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Second tries to clinch but Trzeci is having none of it. Second swings and misses with a shot to the body and Trzeci counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Second with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Mat Second is winning the standup battle so far. Second throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Trzeci counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Trzeci throws a strike but Second avoids it easily and moves to full guard. Trzeci trying to control but Second is working from the bottom. Trzeci distracts Second with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trzeci trying to control the position from guard on top but Second is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Second looking to hit a scissor sweep but Trzeci is one step ahead there. Trzeci wants to control from the top but Second keeps moving. Trzeci trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Trzeci throwing strikes from guard but Second blocks nicely. Trzeci decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Second, up you get! Second dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Trzeci. That did some damage! Second gets a clinch. Second is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Second lands a nice elbow. Second is fighting off a takedown attempt but Trzeci is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Second to the mat. Second regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Trzeci's corner is telling him to maintain position. Trzeci throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Trzeci missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Second tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Trzeci manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Trzeci fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Second manages to avoid it. Trzeci walks forward, straight into a front kick from Second. Second scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Trzeci swats away the attempt to clinch by Second. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Second moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Second avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Second is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Trzeci.

Second swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Trzeci is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

A solid body kick from Second. A slow jab from Second misses its intended target. Trzeci wants to counter the offense by Second and move into the clinch position. Second throws a series of punches but Trzeci avoids them all with ease. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Trzeci throws the left hand but Second avoids the punch easily. Second moves in looking to clinch but Trzeci pushes him off. Trzeci looks to throw the jab but Second is out of range. Trzeci just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromSecond. Lane has had enough of the clinch but Saoul keeps him there for the moment. Lane controlling the action here for a moment.
