I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Tigerjr Choko was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Choko blocks the body kick.
Choko shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Petely as he jumps to the side.
Choko misses with a double jab

and Petely counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Petely.
Choko wants to get back to his feet but Petely passes into half guard.

Choko on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Petely takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Petely controlling the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Petely is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Choko!

Choko turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Petely off and cradles Choko's limp body as Petely celebrates with his corner.

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sam Mayer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wiwanyang Wachipi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sam Mayer had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 157.2lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Mayer gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Wachipi lands a glancing blow to the side of Mayer's head.

Wachipi connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Mayer momentarily.

Wachipi cracks Mayer with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Mayer falls to his knees and Wachipi doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

Wiwanyang Wachipi was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.

A solid body kick from Yen.
Yen lands a jab.
Yen misses with a body shot
and Fertus counters with a nice uppercut.
Yen looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Fertus throws out a counter right but Yen avoids it with no problem.
Yen dives in for a single leg takedown but Fertus sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Yen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Fertus wants to stand back up but Yen manages to pass into side control.
Yen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Fertus keeps working.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Yen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Fertus, who protects the arm well.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Yen looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Yen is just content to waste time from the top position. Fertus takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Yen throws an elbow that misses. Fertus uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Yen's guard. Nice move by Fertus!

Yen wants to control the position but Fertus says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Yen is trying to get back to full guard.
Fertus seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Fertus prevents Yen from improving his position.

Yen manages to work his way to half guard, despite Fertus's best efforts.

Fertus bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Yen's head.
Yen throws a body punch but Fertus moves out of range.
Yen fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Donnie Yen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fertus let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Yen is looking to clinch but Fertus is avoiding it.
Yen darts in looking for a takedown but Fertus gets double underhooks and turns Yen into the cage.

Mike Fertus spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.

Gracie throws a jab when Soni was well out of range.

Soni drives through with a takedown into Gracie's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Soni gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gracie is looking for a triangle but Soni pushes his legs off easily.

Soni tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracie is retaining full guard.

Gracie is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Soni is aware though and is defending well.
Soni wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.
Soni has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Soni got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Soni has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.
Gracie manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Soni manages to get himself to full guard.

Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Soni is retaining full guard.
Soni will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Soni makes his way to full guard, as Gracie worked for a kimura.
Gracie wants to pass the guard but Soni is keeping the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Gracie slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gracie is defended easily by Soni.
Gracie fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Soni has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Soni throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gracie was covering up waiting for the punch and Soni finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Gracie working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Soni has passed into half guard!

Gracie is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Gracie is looking to control Soni's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gracie avoid being mounted?
Gracie is pressing down on Soni's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Gracie has his foot on Soni's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Soni works his way back into a safe position though.
Gracie is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gracie passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Soni!

Gracie is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Soni has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Soni!

Soni wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.

Soni content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Gracie has locked up a guillotine! Gracie's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Soni is holding on here and Gracie must be using up a lot of energy. Soni has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Gracie gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
