Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lily Hilgers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Desmond Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lily Hilgers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Desmond Nelson! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hilgers shoots in but no luck this time. Hilgers fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Nelson avoids it really well and circles away. Hilgers takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Nelson lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Hilgers fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Nelson to the ground. Hilgers is now in Nelson's guard. Hilgers trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Hilgers controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hilgers seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nelson for as long as he can get away with. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ricard needs to keep his hands up - Barnes had a free shot at his head there. Barnes stuns Ricard with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Ricard showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Barnes.
Barnes moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Barnes scores with a hook to the body. Ricard takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Barnes swings for the body but Ricard moves out of range.
Uriah Barnes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Barnes throws a low kick but Ricard moves out of range easily. Ricard doesn't manage to clinch there - Barnes circles away.

and Ricard counters with a shoot takedown. Barnes fights it but they end up in guard. Barnes is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Ricard dives into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Barnes is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Ricard asserts his dominance and retains side control. Barnes knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ricard on the ground.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Redban instigates a clinch. Redban swings wildly with an uppercut but McGrath uses good head movement to avoid it. Redban has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but McGrath regains guard immediately. McGrath is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Redban wants to control from the top but McGrath keeps moving. McGrath controls Redban momentarily but Redban frees himself. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Redban trying to control the position from guard on top but McGrath is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. Redban looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Redban! McGrath managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Redban.
Redban happy to just control the position for now. McGrath is looking to regain half guard here but Redban keeps moving and retains side control. Redban works to advance to full mount. McGrath defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Redban lands a big elbow. McGrath is bucking up trying to escape but Redban cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Redban prevents McGrath from getting the reversal. Redban pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. McGrath holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Redban tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Jordan lands a jab to the nose. Jordan gets in close and instigates a clinch. Jordan's coach down at Bonsai Club MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Jordan's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Ignacio breaks from the clinch.
Ignacio lands with a hook. Jordan tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Jordan scores with a nice strike. Ignacio closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Ignacio misses with an uppercut. Ignacio moves out of range of the strikes. Ignacio drops down looking for a counter takedown but Jordan sprawls and moves away. Ignacio is looking to land body kicks. Jordan let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Jordan catches Ignacio napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Ignacio to the canvas!

Williams works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Williams drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Williams jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Ru wants to get back to his feet but Williams is in a dominant position and won't allow it. My spies in School of Hard Knocks (Elite Training for $225) inform me that Williams has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Williams throws a strike but Ru rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

O Rangers comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. O Rangers fails to land with a series of punches.

And O Rangers tries to counter it with a takedown but Akhmedov pushes his down on his head and steps out. Akhmedov goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. O Rangers darts in looking for a takedown but Akhmedov gets double underhooks and turns O Rangers into the ropes. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Akhmedov throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The fight stays on the outside here - Akhmedov looks like he's thinking about clinching though. O Rangers misses with a double jab.
