Undercard bout

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Buffel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Todd Hofmann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Todd Hofmann!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hofmann closes this distance looking for a takedown but Buffel circles away.
Nice sprawl there from Buffel as Hofmann shoots in.
Buffel attempts a counter takedown but Hofmann avoids it well and moves away.

Hofmann feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Buffel is adopting a defensive guard.
Hofmann really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Buffel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Buffel is looking for a triangle here but Hofmann uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Hofmann decides to stand back up. Hofmann steps back and let's Buffel get back to his feet.

Hofmann is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

It looked like Buffel was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
