Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Martin Jamison!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Alvarez wants it to stay on the feet.

Jamison throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Alvarez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jamison is in Alvarez's guard.

Alvarez has his foot on Jamison's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jamison works his way back into a safe position though.

Alvarez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jamison has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Alvarez has managed to get both his arms back between Jamison's legs - danger averted.
Alvarez makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

That was a close round but I would say that Darwingh Alvarez will probably get the nod.

Alvarez has instead reached around Duch's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Alvarez arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

McMurphy fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Matsushina on the side of the head.
McMurphy bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Matsushina's head backwards.

Matsushina closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Matsushina lands in his opponent's guard.

McMurphy has his foot on Matsushina's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Matsushina works his way back into a safe position though.

Matsushina drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Matsushina seems to have locked his on tight now - McMurphy screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Matsushina, as he picks up the win!

Kalua moves into the clinch.
Kalua is looking to take this one to the mat.
Kalua has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Sears after a bit of a struggle.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Kalua.

Kalua escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Sears misses with a few strikes there.
Sears moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

It looks like Baba Kalua has been cut.
Kalua tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sears sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kalua somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Baba Kalua. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sears looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Kalua shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sears as he avoids it easily.
Kalua gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sears makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Sears scores with a jab to the jaw.
Kalua will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sears works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Kalua wants to clinch up but Sears keeps it at a distance.
Sears lands with a good body shot.
Harry Sears is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kalua is breathing heavily.
Sears throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Kalua's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Sears dives in looking to finish as Kalua flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Sears's strikes! Sears is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Kalua's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Kalua was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
